Second Bathroom Makeover

August 10, 2015

As the summer winds down and fall is looming, we have begun to take our attention back inside the house and our second bathroom makeover.  I found this vanity online.  It was marked down.  I have not bought a lot of items for the house online.  There is just something special about seeing and feeling an item that an online purchase can’t mimic.  That being said, I love this vanity.  Perhaps I should get with the times.  It did take me three days to commit to this and hit the purchase button.

The doors can be taken off and turned around for a different look.  Not absolutely sure yet, but I think I like the louvered look for this bath.  The granite top is ‘butterfly blue’.   When we opened the box and checked to make sure everything was in good shape, we measured to double check how this would fit in the spot. Several people had reviewed vanities with the granite tops and said the tops were cracked when they received them, so we immediately opened and inspected the vanity.  It was in great condition.

We need to take down the builder’s mirror.  The vanity is too tall to use it as it is.   If we can get it down in one piece, I plan to frame it and use it in another room.   Doesn’t it always seem that once you change one thing, it snowballs?   Crown molding, new floor molding, new faucet, eight inches widespread, and possibly a new light fixture will be needed or possibly moving the old one will work.

Fresh paint will be needed and I love the color it is, but the half bath is the same color.  A new color will be selected to coordinate with the granite and the tiles. Using the same system I used from an earlier post, the new color will be chosen.  To see that post click here► For a foolproof way to choose your Paint colors.

The tile we chose is ‘Silver Travertine’ by Avenzo Collection, which we found at Lowe’s.  We went to the tile store and found one similar, but it was three dollars more a square foot and there was not much of a difference.  Actually, we liked the colors of the Silver Travertine better.

The tile and the vanity are sitting in the spare bedroom right now.  Fortunately, my oldest son, Jon-Michael, and his dad were able to help cart this package upstairs.  The vanity is not particularly light and we decided to keep it in the room next to the bathroom to make it easier on us when we are ready to install it.  We start the tearing out process today.  I am looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time!

Wish me luck!  Today is the day we begin our second bathroom makeover.
