Unique And Interesting Items At The Garden Center
Don’t you love visiting the garden center in the spring and finding amazing new ideas and plants? The big box stores have lots of flowers, plants, and trees but doesn’t it seem it’s the same thing every year? Yes, I love some of the old standbys but I get excited when something new and different catches my eye!
It just so happens that my oldest daughter Danielle recently started working at a garden center and gift shop in southeastern Indiana, Casey’s Outdoor Solutions Garden And Gifts. I never even knew this place existed! Each time I visit this store, there is a different plant that stands out as unique and interesting. It’s hard to resist these items.
Helleborus ‘Pink Frost’
Earlier this spring, right by Casey’s front door, a display of Helleborus caught my eye. I’ve seen these in gardening catalogs but never in a garden center!
Burgundy buds open on this variety, soften to pink blossoms in late winter and darken to a rich hue. This plant is an evergreen. The foliage has a silvery sheen and has red stems and veins. This variety grows 12 – 14-inches high and 24-inches wide and likes full to part shade. It is a nice companion with the hostas.
Hummer Ring
You know I love hummingbirds. If you want to encourage them to visit your backyard, click here ►for How To Make An Environment They’ll Love.

After you’ve clicked on the link above and read the post, you know how to attract them to your backyard and how to make food for them, you need a Hummer Ring! Can you believe this? There is a display of these by the cashier and of course, it caught my eye! What a unique and great idea!
Of course, you don’t just walk around with the ring on your finger and they automatically fly to you. First, you place the ring with the nectar inside upright in a pot with some sand or lodged among some rocks or pebbles. Set this close to your other nectar feeders. Keep it filled with fresh nectar. After the hummingbirds find it and begin feeding regularly, you can place the ring on your finger in the same location. Be patient and sit still! How cool is that?
Grab ‘N Grow
Have you seen these Grab ‘N Grow containers? This is a hassle-free way to choose coordinating flowers for your baskets and pots! This hexagonal shaped plastic container contains one center plant, a geranium, three trailing plants, calibrachoa, and three lantanas. There is a variety of different plants available in these packs.
Instead of planting the flowers we chose in hanging baskets, we decided to feature them in the large pots on the front porch. This collection is for sunny locations. There are also some for shady locations. The blue calibrachoa, aka million bells, and pink lantana will fill the space all around the center pot. I like stacking the pots for a little added height.
Amazing Plant – Candy Corn Vine
Imagine seeing this Candy Corn Vine while walking through the garden center! It’s so unusual! I couldn’t resist!
The little blossoms really do resemble candy corn! The vine is supported by a tomato cage. It’s not one of those plants that is a mass of striking color. It is a little understated and begs a closer look.
The Candy Corn Vine, aka Firecracker Vine, is actually from South America. It loves the summer heat. Unfortunately, it does not like cold and we’ll have to bring it inside for the winter. Some people grow this as an annual outside.
Home and Garden Center Gift Shop
In addition to the plants, gardening, and landscaping materials, there is a huge home and garden gift shop. I saw this little pillow, which matches the colors of Sophie’s room and I simply couldn’t resist.
There are so many unique and interesting items in the shop, you will be sure to find something you love. Don’t you love this etagere with the birdcage top? The items are constantly changing and unique!
If you live close to Lawrenceburg, Indiana, or are going to be in the area, you need to visit this garden center! Once you see the lake out front, this little rock bridge, and several antique trucks around the property, you’ll know you found the right place. New plants are arriving…
