Location and Tickets For The Ark Encounter
About 40 minutes south of here just off of I-75 in Williamstown Kentucky, is the Ark Encounter. Dave and I decided to surprise two of the grandkids with a trip to visit this incredible life-size Noah’s ark attraction this past week. We went earlier in the day on Wednesday.
We bought the Ark tickets online and printed them so we wouldn’t have to stand in line to purchase them. Be aware that they have special deals throughout the year, which you can take advantage of online. They also have a combo ticket for the Ark and the Creation Museum located in Petersburg, Kentucky.
What To Expect
The Ark parking lot is just off the interstate and off KY-36. Take the Owenton/Williamstown exit 154. You’ll be directed where to park. Then, you’ll need to walk to the building for buying tickets or presenting your tickets. You’ll be handed a pamphlet with a map and a plastic bracelet to wear during your stay. Next, you will board a bus, which will take you to the Ark.
A note here, there are clean bathrooms on each floor of the Ark.
As you near the Ark, you will be impressed by how massive it is! It was built to the specifications of the Bible!
A Pleasant Walk To The Entrance Of The Ark
It’s a short, pleasant walk to the entrance of the Ark. These elephants are two of the topiaries that are actually sculpted wire statues that are filled with moss.
The Ark
Measuring 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high, the sheer size of the Ark is incredible. As much as you have read about the Ark and its size, standing there and experiencing its enormity. It is astonishing.
Signs with lots of information and messages from the Bible are displayed at the entrance and throughout the huge boat.
I didn’t remember, but do you remember that Noah is Methuselah’s grandson?
Once you pass the welcome sign, a lovely curving walk lined with beautiful vegetation takes you to a worker who greets you and points you in the right direction.
Even though the Ark is huge, the walk is not a strenuous one. Ramps throughout make it an easy and pleasant stroll. You enter on the ground floor, walk up the spacious ramp, and there lies the first floor.
The First Floor
You can imagine being here during the flood when you hear the thunder roar as you enter the ark. The first floor holds tons of cages for animals. Note how these are constructed to easily feed and water the animals with a box and pottery attached to the side of the cage.
Pottery fills many shelves. What a huge undertaking it must have been to store enough food for all of the animals!
The Ark Encounter Animals
It is pretty interesting to read about the animals, how, and why they were chosen. I always envisioned adult animals but Noah probably chose young animals. They are smaller and need less food, and make less waste. That really makes sense, right?
The animals in the displays are so realistic!
The Ark Encounter Structures
The center of the Ark seems to draw everyone like a magnet.
Perhaps it is because there are windows at the top and the light shines down on the construction of this massive structure. It is just amazing.
Then, there is a replica of the set of massive doors that were the only doors onto the original Ark.
There is also a blacksmith shop on the Ark, as well as a room for carpentry.
The Third Floor On The Ark Encounter
The top floor on the Ark is my favorite. It gives you an idea of how the living quarters might have looked. From the kitchen to the sleeping quarters, and food storage.
My granddaughter liked the way the beds are built and imagined how that setup could work in her bedroom.
The top floor receives the most light from the overhead windows. There, Noah and his family probably were able to grow some vegetables and fruits.
I don’t know about you but I hadn’t really thought that deeply about how they had managed. Having read that Noah was on the Ark for 377 days, they surely would have had to grow some food.
There is so much to take in here and it is so impressive, you just have to see it for yourself. This is a glimpse of what to expect and we didn’t even touch on the zoo, the restaurant, and the other food and gift stores. I’m sure we will visit again soon.
