Are you needing a simple and elegant Christmas mantel display with faux greenery? On Pinterest, I saw the idea to use a couple of teardrop swags on the mantel. It looks so nice with the thick ends in the middle and the narrow ends on the outside. Don’t you love this idea?
Mantel Display Supplies
- 2 Teardrop Swags
- 6 Pinecone Picks
- 2 – Narrow Greenery Garlands With Berries
- Poinsettia Garland
So, I pull out the teardrop swag and lay it on the mantel.
There is a minor problem. I need two and only have one. No big deal, a trip to the local craft store will remedy that. That’s what I thought. After visiting several stores, I return home empty-handed. How can this be? The stores seem to be stripped clean!

So, I ordered this Northlight 30″ Canadian Pine Artificial Christmas Teardrop Door Swag. It is not an exact match, but I think it won’t be noticeable after decorations are added. When you lay the swags on the mantel, push and pull up the needles on the backside. Instead of laying the swag flat, the back should be at a 90° angle.
On the top of each of the teardrops is a loop for hanging. I just wrapped the two wired pieces together. You could also use a zip tie to secure the two together.
Add Some Picks
Across the front of the mantel, I tuck six pinecone picks into the greenery. The pinecones add a little texture and interest.
When I laid the swags on the mantel, I kind of shaped a little ditch in the teardrop-shaped greenery. Then, in the ditch on top of the greenery, I lay two 5-foot long garlands of juniper greenery with red berries.
Poinsettia Garland
The family room is a mess with lots of bins containing Christmas decorations. In the box that holds the Christmas tree, I also store a few garlands. When I brought the Christmas tree pieces up, I also brought up the garlands.
This red poinsettia garland, which had been resting on a chair, caught my eye. Wouldn’t it look perfect on top of the greenery swags and the juniper and red berry garland?
This was not planned, but layering these elements makes a beautiful lush display, doesn’t it? Ironically, the only thing I bought is the second teardrop swag!
Christmas Mantel Display Wall Art
Isn’t it frustrating when you imagine something in your head and a shopping trip to your favorite stores leaves you empty-handed? Well, this is what happened again. But, in my wanderings, a piece of Christmas wall art caught my eye at Kirkland’s.
I could imagine it hanging on the wall above the mantel display and bought it. I think it’s perfect!
Add A Little Sparkle And Some Shiny Ornaments
At this point, I was happy with the mantel. Then, I snap a picture. It seemed to lack some pizazz! Adding a string of lights behind the swags sets off the greenery and poinsettias and adds a little sparkle.
It still needs something though, doesn’t it?
There it is! Some silver and gold sparkly ornaments add that needed pizazz.
