As I began this early spring fireplace mantel decor, the plan was to create a subtle St. Patrick’s Day mantel. The original idea is not even close to the finished mantel display.
I bought two matching apothecary jars and some bright green shamrock ornaments when I began to envision the spring mantel display. After setting the filled jars on the mantel, I looked around the house for items to add to the display.

The two green arches I’ve used before seemed perfect for this display. My intention was to focus on green items. Enhancing the display with a cohesive color scheme creates a visually appealing look.
In the storage room, I spotted the boxwood bunny wreath. The boxwood bunny wreath introduces a playful and charming element to the design.
After hanging the bunny wreath in the center of the two arches, I set a white bunny on top of a book. Then, I pulled the green moss bunny featured in an earlier post out of the Easter bin and placed it on the opposite side of the wreath on top of another book.
Balancing the Spring Fireplace Mantel Decor
Then, it seemed the white bunny side needed a little more weight. I remembered the green bunny vase and retrieved it from the cabinet. Since the bunny wreath had a peach bow around his neck, some peach-colored flowers seemed the perfect addition.
This mantel display quickly transformed into a bunny-themed affair. Isn’t it just perfect that I created the vintage Easter egg last week and one of the images features a rabbit? It found a place right next to the moss bunny.
A little Easter tin with a chick on it fills a space just to the right of the vintage wooden egg.
Two decoupaged wire cube photo holders from an earlier post are set next to each of the apothecary jars. Two little birds are placed on each side of the display.
Removing and Changing Decorative Items
At this point, I realized the green shamrock ornaments in the apothecary jars didn’t work. It seemed that small moss-covered balls would be perfect to complete this display. A quick trip to my favorite craft and home goods stores left me empty-handed.
Then, on the second walk-through at Hobby Lobby, a box of ornamental spheres caught my eye. It was the last box in the olive green color! You can see that this is a much better option.

So, the last detail is this little cast iron bird. You can find a set of similar birds ◄ here.
Incorporating themed items like the bunny wreath can create a focal point and add personality to the display.
You may be an old hand at this process. However, if you’re not, hopefully, you can see how to allow the design process to guide you toward a unique and captivating mantel display that surpasses your initial intentions.
