This year, I decided to do some Christmas in July crafting. There are some crafty ideas I’ve been wanting to create every Christmas season, but December seems to fly by too quickly. Last year, I picked up two inexpensive frames from Dollar Tree. If you recall, I used one to create a decorative ornament frame decoration.

Recently, I found a decoupage paper package of vintage Santas on Amazon. Well, I couldn’t resist. The focal point of this easy-to-make project is a Santa from this pack. You could use a recycled Christmas card instead.
The remaining decorative items and ephemera are from my crafting stash, which I’ve collected from local craft stores over time.

Steps to Create a Vintage Santa Decoration
The first step is to remove the back and the glass from the picture frame and set them to the side. Choose the main pieces you want to include in the layout. Then, lay the frame over the top of your layout.
Initially, I planned to use a copy of vintage sheet music as the background. I found an image of some old music, downloaded it, and printed a 5″ x 7″ copy of it.
As you can see in the picture, the background seemed to compete with the Santa and the two Christmas dimensional stickers I chose. I replaced the sheet music with a darker poinsettia cardstock and it seems to set off the Santa picture instead of competing with it.
At this point, I decided to cut the white border off of the Santa picture. Then, I chose a complimentary plaid cardstock from the same Christmas cardstock pad where I found the poinsettia design.
As I looked at the composition in the frame, it seemed it lacked sparkle. Spotting a bag of pipe cleaners, I noticed the silver option.
I bent the pipe cleaner, set it on the picture frame, and decided the silver pipe cleaner added a little sparkle to the frame.
As I removed the pipe cleaners, I accidentally hit the frame, causing the Santa picture to become skewed. Well, I liked it and decided to go with it!
To add a little more interest to the bottom of the composition, I added a strip of coordinating cardstock from the same paper pad.
Glue the Elements in Place
First, I glued the edges of the Santa picture to the plaid cardstock that I cut leaving an edge on all four sides. Then, I glued that to the poinsettia background. Next, the striped strip was glued along the bottom edge.
Next, I removed the backs from the dimensional stickers and set them in place. It’s a good idea to repeat elements in a design. There’s a snowflake on the Merry Christmas dimensional sticker. So, I added a couple of snowflake stickers to the composition.
My plan to add a pretty red bow and a jingle bell tied with a red and white butcher string gave me the idea to add a candy cane cutout to the lower left corner.
Add a Pretty Bow
Fashion a pretty bow from red wired ribbon. I created a bow with double loops on each side. Then, thread a jingle bell and a small tag with ‘Believe!” printed on it. (I created this tag on PicMonkey.)
Wrap the string around the berry stem and the red bow. Tie, and, or, glue the string in place. Make a bow from the red and white string. Then, use hot glue or cool melt glue to glue the bow in place.
