Supplies Needed:
- 12″ x 12″ Decorative cardstock
- 6″ x 6″ Decorative cardstock
- Mechanical pencil
- Metal ruler and X-Acto knife
- Tacky Glue
- Scoring board and scoring tool
- Scissors
Directions:
Here’s a measurement guide for the base of the card and the center section. Cut on the solid lines. Score and fold on the dashed lines.

Prepare the Card Base
The cardstock I’ve selected has color on both sides.
Start by cutting a piece of cardstock to measure 12 inches by 7 inches. Use your ruler and pencil to mark the dimensions before cutting to ensure accuracy.
With the 12-inch side facing you, score the cardstock at 3 and 6 inches.
Create the Z-Fold
Gently fold along the score lines to create a Z shape. Fold in half on the center line. The left panel should fold inward, and the middle panel should fold outward. See the pictures below.
Cut a 2-3/4 inches strip from the bottom of the cardstock. This will be the center section. Set to the side.

Now, cut 3 rectangles in coordinating or contrasting decorative cardstock. I’ve used a page from a 6×6-inch Valentine pad. Cut two rectangles 2-3/4 x 4-1/4 inches from one page. Then, cut one piece 4-1/4 x 5-3/4 inch.
Adhere the three decorative rectangles to the card with Tacky Glue.
Adhere the Center Strip
Lay the center strip on top of the card over the decorative rectangles with the longer section to the left. See the picture below. I decided to attach the section 3/4 inch from the left and right ends. So, I cut off 1-1/2 inches from the end of the long section.

Fold the center section and apply Tacky Glue to the back. Lay the center strip on top of the card.
Be sure that the 3-inch section fold slips under the fold of the base card. See the picture below.

Decorate
Now comes the fun part! Use decorative paper to create beautiful backgrounds or focal points. Adhere decorative items like paper flowers or vintage buttons to the card. You can also use antiquing mediums to give the card a charming, rustic look.
Add any additional embellishments to the front and inside of the card to make it uniquely yours. I cut several flower pieces using my Cricut and arranged them until they looked good.
You can use ephemera or whatever you like to customize your card.
I created the Happy Mother’s Day in an oval on PicMonkey, printed it, and cut it out around the oval.
Add the Message
On the inside of the card, write a heartfelt message for your mom. You can print something special like I’ve done and adhere it to the card or use calligraphy pens to write something special.
Your handmade card will touch your mom’s heart and show her how much you care. Enjoy the creative process and the joy it brings to your Mother’s Day celebration!
