My granddaughter has planned a luau party for her 10th birthday this year. This fun flamingo wreath is a little surprise to add to her party decorations.
I found the plastic flamingo, the leis, the silk flower garland, and the wreath form at Dollar Tree. I couldn’t find tropical silk flowers there, but the garland has dark pink dahlias that seemed close enough. Hobby Lobby has the palm leaves in the party section. Flamingo Wreath

Supplies needed:

- 14-inch wire wreath form
- Plastic Flamingo
- Silk Hawaiian leis
- Flamingo sign
- Silk flowers
- Palm leaves
- Glue gun and Glue sticks
- 4 Wine corks
Directions:
First, take your wire wreath form and one of the Hawaiian leis. This wreath form has 6 sections. Attach one lei to each section.
Apply a little bit of hot glue to each end of the plastic tube between the flowers on a lei. (This secures the string, holding the flowers on the string.)
Cut the tube, with the string, in half and glue one end to the wire wreath form.
Wrap the loose end around the wreath form multiple times, and then attach it to the same section of the wreath form with another dot of glue.
Then, repeat the process for each section.
Plaque
While this plaque is adorable as it is, I didn’t want the ribbons and hanging ornaments. They were stapled to the back. I removed them with a staple puller. A small flat-head screwdriver would have worked.

When deciding exactly where to position the plaque, I laid the plaque on top of the flowers. The plaque flattened the flowers on the leis. I brainstormed overnight, trying to figure out how to securely attach the plaque without flattening the flowers.
The next morning, I saw a wine cork. This idea was formed. Taking a serrated knife, I made a half to 3/4-inch deep slit on one end of two corks.
I slid the corks on the wires of the wreath form. The corks held securely, but I added some glue where the cork and wires met.
Then, I applied a ring of Tacky Glue and a big dot of hot glue in the center of the cork top. I laid the plaque on top of the corks and allowed the glue to dry for a few minutes.

Perfect!
Palm Leaves
These palm leaves from Hobby Lobby are too long for this project. I basically cut all four in half.
Glue them to the wreath to create a background for the flamingo. Apply glue to the ends of the palm leaves and adhere them to the wires underneath the silk flowers.
I glued three palm leaves to the wreath initially. After hanging the finished wreath to admire it, I felt it needed another. I added the fourth.
The Flamingo
The flamingo comes with two metal legs, but you will not need them for this wreath.
After deciding where I wanted the flamingo, I applied a generous amount of hot glue to the back side and set it in place. It wasn’t too sturdy.
Two more corks with slits positioned behind the flamingo remedied the problem. It might be easier to position the corks before gluing the flamingo.
The Silk Flowers
For $3 at Dollar Tree, I bought a garland with large dark pink flowers and simply cut the flowers from the garland. Fortunately, I had some smaller tropical-looking flowers from a previous project. These are tucked in around the larger blooms.

I hope she enjoys this wreath and that it adds to her luau party! You may remember that Memphis created a luau menu and asked me to make pineapple upside-down cupcakes. Click here for the recipe►: pineapple upside-down cupcakes.
