Last week, I saw the most incredible thing on Pinterest, a fish tower!  A German gentleman created a tower in his pond.

My mind immediately started racing, trying to figure out how to do this in my water garden.  My accomplice in most of my undertakings here at home is my oldest son Jon-Michael. Immediately, I sent him a picture to his cell phone and told him to start brain-storming.

In Search Of Fish Tower Project Parts

Last night we went out to ‘Garden Ridge’, a local crafting and home decorating store, and scrutinized the aisles of products, which might work for our project.

A black metal plant stand was what we settled upon for the base.  We continued looking and found a large plexiglass vase. Placed upside down on the plant stand, it fits perfectly in the plant stand.

This morning, I used Rust-Oleum ‘ LeakSeal to coat the entire plant stand.   I don’t know that it was necessary to do this, however, I thought the rubber surface would keep the glass from slipping on the metal and possibly protect the stand from rust.  Click here for more pictures, the step-by-step process, and the end result.

After the ‘Leak Seal’ had dried, the plant stand was positioned in the garden pond.  Realizing that I probably couldn’t lift the vase filled with water and position it on the stand without making a total mess and probably pouring all of the water out of the vase,  I started thinking of how to remove the air from the vase.

In the video, the German gentleman used a shop vac, but it dawned on me that I had an ‘Aquarium Siphon Gravel Cleaner Simple Fish Tank Vacuum Water Change Pump, which I had not used.  The pump is only a couple of dollars at the pet store.  (We are an Amazon affiliate and may receive a small percentage of any sales through these links at no cost to you.  Thanks for supporting this website!)

Assembling The Fish Tower In The Pond

While placing the vase upside down on the plant stand and holding it with one hand, I put the end of the pump nozzle up into the vase.  Then I began to pump.  It actually worked, slowly, but seriously… It worked!

As the vase filled with water, it was pretty exciting.  When I had to stop pumping, I just held my thumb over the tube.  (My hand got tired several times.  There’s a lot of air in a vase this size!)

Anyway, isn’t the tower in my water garden the neatest thing?
