It’s easy to decorate your flip-top box with paper flowers! This box top came together very quickly. I knew I wanted a vintage-looking photo and paper flowers.

The photo is one I took of my granddaughter a while back. It was easy to use PicMonkey to change the photo to a sepia color, which gives it that vintage look. I simply printed it onto cardstock.
Then, I cut a piece of cardstock decorated with cursive handwriting from the Timeless Texture pad. I cut it just a little larger than the photo and glued the photo on top of it.

Although I used the Cricut for this project, there are cutting dies you can find at craft stores and on Amazon. Don’t let this intimidate you! These little rolled flowers are easy to make!

Supplies Needed
- 6″ x 6″ decorative Cardstock
- 12″ x 12″ light Cardstock
- Slotted quilling tool
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- Tacky Glue
- Metal craft corners
- Lace
- Vintage-Looking photo
- Tim Holtz ephemera
- Tim Holtz Distress Ink
Directions:
If you have a Cricut cutting machine, search for the Mini Paper Flowers project. There are 12 spiral cutouts in different sizes on one page. I cut four different coordinating papers and made 48 in total. I chose not to use the yellow roses in the end.
Since several weren’t needed, there are leftovers for another project. I have to admit that I love these little flowers!
Begin by taking one of the spirals and a slotted quilling tool. Then, slip the end of the paper spiral into the slotted end of the quilling tool.
It seems counterintuitive, but make sure the decorative side of the paper is facing you. Roll the tool over the decorative side.
Remove the rolled paper from the tool when you reach the center point where it’s difficult to continue. Hold the coil together with your thumb and forefinger as you remove it.
Apply glue to the center flap round and roll the end of the spiral around the paper flower. Then, press the end flap over the flower base. At this point, flip the flower over and open the coils of the paper flower up a little with your fingers. The glue takes a minute to set up so you have time to manipulate the petals a little.
If you want the flower to be open more, open the coils before gluing, some of the flowers I made with tighter coils and some with looser.
The tweezers came in handy for opening up and opening the petals. In no time at all, I had a bunch of these little flowers!
You can see that I also cut some leaves from other projects on the Cricut. The tiny leaves are from the ‘Forever Rose’ project on Cricut.
Decorating the Cover
In my craft collection, I have several packages of Tim Holtz ephemera. This small plate is one of the pieces from those collections. A piece of light cardstock from the ‘Timeless Texture’ light cardstock pad almost matched the background color. I used it to print out Memphis Belle in brown ink. Then, I used some of Tim Holtz Distress Ink to age the edges.
I laid out the different elements on the cover before gluing and was pretty happy with the layout.
Next, I removed everything and began to glue the picture to the cardstock on the cover. Then, I added glue to the metal corner pieces even though they were adhesive. We don’t want them to fall off later.
Next, a little glue was sparingly applied to the back of the lace and the lace was positioned at the bottom of the cardstock. I glued the Memphis Belle nameplate right above the lace.
Add a butterfly cutout right above the nameplate. Begin gluing three of the larger paper flowers to the cover. I added a green stem to the corner and cut some leaves from the remaining stem. Those two leaves are tucked in around the flowers, too.
Then, add smaller flowers and green leaves around the larger flowers. Two vintage stamps from the Tim Holtz ephemera collection are glued to the upper right corner, and a small rose completes the composition. Isn’t this the cutest thing?
