You know that bread dipping oil with the spices served at Italian restaurants? Well, you can make your own at home easily. It’s great with French bread or crusty rolls.
Italian Bread Dipping Oil
- 1 tablespoon minced basil
- 1 tablespoon chopped Italian flat-leafed parsley
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon chopped rosemary
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon olive oil
- 1/8 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
Combine all of the ingredients, except the oil and lemon.
Put into a small food processor. Chop briefly until all ingredients are chopped about the same size.
Stir in the oil and lemon juice.
TO SERVE: Place about 1-1/2 teaspoons of the spice mixture in a small bowl. Add about 3 Tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil to the spice mixture in the bowl.
Dip freshly baked bread in the mixture and enjoy every bite!
Since you probably won’t use all of the herb and spice mixture at one time, it can be stored in a small glass container in the refrigerator.
