Ranch and Dill Oyster Crackers
- 1 pkg. oyster crackers
- 1 pkg. (1.6-ounce) Hidden Valley Ranch Original or Dips Mix
- 3/4 cup oil
- 1 Tblsp. dill weed
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
After I made the dill crackers, I noticed an Italian Ritz Bitz – flavored snack on Pinterest. Hmmm. That would make a good oyster cracker, too. That recipe called for vegetable oil.
Considering this, I thought doesn’t olive oil just make more sense for an Italian version? A little garlic powder and a little basil seemed to be needed, too. So, I revised the Italian version a little and I think they turned out pretty dang good. I might try a little oregano next time, too. What do you think?
Italian Oyster Crackers
- 1 pkg. oyster crackers
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 package zesty Italian salad dressing mix
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp. dried basil
Preheat oven to 250°.
Place the crackers in a large glass mixing bowl.
Measure the olive oil in a glass measuring cup.
Add the dressing mix, the garlic powder, and 1/4 tsp dried basil to the olive oil.
Pour the oil mixture over the crackers. Gently stir and toss well, coating all the crackers with the seasoned oil mixture.
Next, place the crackers on a foil-covered sheet pan.
Bake for 10 minutes at 250°. Flip the crackers over after 10 minutes and return to the oven for 10 more minutes. Cool and serve or store in an airtight container.

A buffalo oyster cracker version caught my eye but the recipe called for a plain hot sauce. Doesn’t it make more sense to use ‘Buffalo’ wing sauce?
I like the dill version. The Italian version is good but oh, my gosh! These are my new favorite! Because of the buffalo sauce, they have to bake a little longer. After 10 minutes, they were flipped over and we tasted one. It was soft in the middle and didn’t seem to have much flavor.
After another 10 minutes, we tasted another. Okay, a couple more than one but they still were a little mushy in the middle. I flipped them over with a spatula, one more time. 10 more minutes of baking and they were crunchy, flavorful, and delicious! These are addictive.

When Dave and I were on vacation last year, we ate shrimp at a fresh fish market in North Carolina. We were served French fries that were so delicious. I asked the waitress what the seasoning was on those and she said that they use Old Bay Seasoning! These crackers remind me of those.

Truly, I don’t know how these could be any easier. The oyster crackers we bought were just the generic brand. Dave bought some of these from the grocery a few weeks ago, to my chagrin. He said they were out of the name brand. Okay.

Making a batch of Italian oyster cracker, they and the taco ones are a big hit!
So glad your family likes them, Lisa! It’s hard to choose, isn’t it? Thank you for visiting!
When making these (for years!) we’ve never baked them….just put it all in a container and gently stirred every 1/2 hour for an hour or two. Always yummy, no oven to heat up👍
Well, Colette, I’ve never heard that before! The house sure smells good when they’re heated in the oven. Thanks for sharing.
