You may remember that Emily and I used this to make her bridesmaid gift boxes.  It is also what I used to make the Paper Napkin Transfer Boxes this past weekend.  (I love these little boxes!)

Imagine receiving one of these with a little treat inside!  That is my plan for a couple of special people in my life.  I’m making homemade peanut butter cookies but the ideas for this are endless.  You could fill it with chocolates or another type of candy.  Who wouldn’t want one?

To make your own, first, you will need one of these gift box punch boards from We R Memory Keepers.  It comes with its own scoring tool and a handy slot for storing it, too.  This punch board makes box-making so easy! There’s a chart on the front showing box sizes and paper dimensions needed for each size.

For this floral box, I chose the 3.25 x 3.25 x 3.25 box size.  You can see in the chart that the paper size needed for this size box is 10-inches x 10-inches.

Cut a 10-inch square piece of cardstock.  If you are using the Paper Napkin Transfer method, you will apply the napkin before the next step.

Flip open the score extender and place the paper on the punch board, lining the top of the paper along the raised edge of the punch board.  Make sure it is straight and snug against the edge!  If it isn’t, your box may end up ‘wonky’ and not fold together exactly right.

You can see on the chart that this size box is highlighted.  The start lines are on the left side.  You can see on the chart that the Start line for this size box is ‘L’ for Large.  Note that the Diagonal line is also ‘L’.

The left edge of the paper should be on the ‘L’ Start Line and the top edge should be nestled against the raised edge.

Hold the paper securely and push down the orange punch.  That will punch out a V-shaped design, which you can see in the picture above.

Next, pick up the scoring tool and score along the indentations for the vertical line, the horizontal line, and the diagonal line.  Remember to use the diagonal line indicated on the chart!  For this project, it was the ‘L’ also, as highlighted earlier.  You can see where these are indicated in the picture above by the white arrows.  When scoring these lines, you want to press firmly but don’t press down too hard or you might tear the cardstock.  (Practice on scrap paper to get the hang of it.)

Remove the paper, rotate 90°, repeat the previous steps, punch, and score the remaining three sides in the same way.  It should look like this.

Now, flip the paper over, and line up the paper against the raised edge at the top and along the correct Start Line, (‘L’ for this example).  Use the punch to make another ‘V’ cutout, turn the paper 90°, line up the edges again, punch, and repeat until four edges are punched.

On the top of the punch board, above the punch is a triangular indentation.  Slip a corner of the paper into this indentation and push down on the punch to form the little-curved slit.

Repeat this on the three remaining corners.  It doesn’t matter whether you do this on the back or the front with the design.  You must punch all on the same side though!  You can see that I punched them all with the floral side down.

If you flip this over and do some on one side and some on the other, they will not fit together!  These are the slits that slide together and hold the box together at the top.

Use the scoring tool. Now, fold the box.  Use the scoring tool to crease and make sharp edges.

Fold the box up from two opposite corners and slip the two curved slots together.  Don’t pull up on the paper ends.  It should slip together easily.

How to fold the box

Fold the two creases indicated by the arrows inward on both sides and pull the top tabs up.  Then, slip the two slots together.

There it is, a perfect little gift box!  Imagine all the different patterns possible!  Fill the little box, tie a ribbon on it, and you’ll have a memorable gift for someone special.

I’m making homemade peanut butter cookies today and will be slipping a stack of them into a clear plastic party bag, securing with a twist tie, and placing them in the little boxes.
