Day Before The Wedding Preparations
The day before the wedding, Jon-Michael and I made our way to the barn. My Mustang was loaded down with boxes of candles, candle holders, baskets, signs, etc. Fortunately, the back seats fold down! You’d be surprised at what we unloaded from this car!
Sandy, Sondra, and Amy were already working on setting up the reception. The tables are all placed just as we wanted. Chairs are being placed at the tables. We unpack the car and place all of the things on tables.

In no time, I turn around and this old drop-leaf table was set up artistically with the birdcage cardholder, the guest book, pen, candle, and the blackboard sign, which came from Michael’s. (I made the little sign on PicMonkey using the blackboard background under textures, cut it out, and used invisible tape to adhere it to the metal sign.)
Using some of Emily’s and Jon-Michael’s pictures that they had taken with their phones along with some of their engagement photos, I created the guest book on Shutterfly. (We are not affiliated with Shutterfly and don’t receive any compensation for mentioning them. It’s just what I used and it came out nicely.)
Wedding Entry Curtain
We brought a bolt of fabric and some drapery curtain clips to fashion into a curtain on the grapevine arbor entrance. Frankly, I wasn’t even sure how this was going to come together but had asked for help putting this up on the grapevine. Amy gave me a ride in the golf cart over to the grapevine entrance to the woods and the ceremony site. Then, she called Sondra over and asked her if she thought she could use the fabric and the clips to fashion a curtain. With few words, Sondra said she could do it and we left the fabric and clips in her capable hands.
In no time, Sondra had fashioned this beautiful entry curtain! These ladies are talented!
This stunning baby grand piano was set up near the mismatched chairs in the clearing. (It doesn’t really work. It’s just for show but isn’t it gorgeous?)
The Wedding Day
The cake was made by “Cakes By Camille” in Campbellsville, Kentucky. The nearly naked cake was lovely but, in my opinion, this was the best tasting wedding cake ever! Emily and Jon-Michael wisely chose the salted caramel cake.
Delicious!
I took these pictures before Sondra, Sandy, and Missy put their finishing touches on the cake. Afterward, they used some of the florist flowers and greenery to create a beautiful display around the cake and to add little touches to the cake knife and server.
Sorry, I didn’t get a picture after they were finished.
Koozie Basket
We placed the koozie basket on top of a rustic old table positioned by the back door and close to the bar. My daughter, Tiffany, made the chalkboard sign. She made another for the S’Mores basket, too.
The Wedding Bar
Notice the little metal sign on the bar. This one had another ‘chalkboard sign‘ attached to it with an Instagram icon and the hashtag for our wedding photos. (I love these little metal signs and will be using them for other occasions!)
See the little building in the back on the right side of the bar picture? Amy added that this year. The inside is loaded with extra decorations and looks like a newer building but look at the facade! It looks old and fits in perfectly.
Emily and I supplied the little votives and candles. Last Halloween, Emily found some felted candle holders at the craft store. We bought all that we could find. Some were a cranberry color and some were black. We spray painted the black ones with Satin Claret Wine Rustoleum 2X Ultra Cover. The paint adhered to the felted candle holders perfectly. Then, the finished result was a deeper color that coordinated with the cranberry colored candlesticks. Wedding Reception Tables
For the past year, we have been buying brass candle holders everywhere we could find them, antique malls, antique stores, thrift shops, and yard sales. It’s amazing that when you are looking for these, it is difficult to find them! We will probably see them everywhere now! Lol!
For the past few weeks, in my mind, I planned how many of the felted and brass candlesticks needed to be placed on each table, how many votives, and how we might place them on the tables. Then incredibly, I dropped off some things to Emily in the ‘Bride’s Cottage’ and came back to see that Sandy and Missy had already perfectly placed them all on the tables!

Greenery and more beautiful flowers adorn the arbor. This photo was also taken by Nick. ►NicholasViltrakis.com
The Wedding Bouquets
The bouquets Julia made are beautiful! Emily’s bouquet featured protea flowers which look kind of like a burgundy artichoke. There are other flowers and some berries to complement the protea in her bouquet and the bridesmaid’s bouquets were all greenery. The green bouquets look gorgeous against the canyon color of the bridesmaid’s dresses and the man of honor’s shirt.
Nicholas Viltrakis – The Wedding Photographer
The picture above was taken by the photographer, Nick Viltrakis, from Cincinnati, Ohio. His wife, Emily, helps him so much, I certainly want to give her credit, too. Although The Barn At Cedar Grove is a photographer’s paradise, Nick has a special talent for making the most of opportunities and he is fun to work with, too. You can find his website here ►NicholasViltrakis.com
The Barn at Cedar Grove has a couple of huge wreaths around the property to use for pictures and this picture is staged beautifully!
Remember the shed full of extras to make your wedding special? It makes an enchanting backdrop, too.
I noticed this old dilapidated building when we drove down the gravel drive to the barn and so did Nick. How gorgeous is this?
Nick’s photos are like works of art. These are so beautiful, I can’t wait to see the rest!
