So you need an awesome display for your autumn mantel. I don’t know about you but fall crept up on me too quickly! Remember the quirky spring mantel from March?
Have you ever created something that just spoke to you and you just didn’t want to give it up? This quirky spring mantel was one of those for me. Each of these items was a special find that I just love for some reason and although summer came and went, I just couldn’t bring myself to take it down.
I have been clinging to my beloved summer. Yet, autumn comes and I have to force myself to remove the items from the mantel and replace them with a seasonal display. The spring mantel items are packed away and the bin of bright orange, yellow, green, and autumnal colored gourds and pumpkins lay on the floor opened and ready.
Some Inspiration From Years Past
One of my favorite autumn mantel displays was this one from three years ago. The two blackbirds were removed after Halloween and the rust-colored glass pumpkins were repositioned.
This mantel inspired by a display in a restaurant is also a favorite! You’ll notice some of the same elements in the fall mantel this year.
You can see the post for this mantel here ►How To Create A Beautiful Autumnal Mantel Display
This fall mantel display from a few years ago shows off some velvet pumpkins I made. The three vases under the clock, filled with wine corks, have rust colored bows wrapped around them. Silk leaves create a bed for the pumpkins, vases, and brass candlesticks.
My love of clocks has evolved into a collection and you can see quite a few displayed around the house. You’ll notice the black clock above the mantel was replaced with a DIY greenery wreath this last spring. The clock hangs above a couple of pictures at the top of the stairs now.
The Bin With All The Pumpkins And Gourds
As I removed the pumpkins and gourds from the bin, they were each placed on the fireplace mantel. With the addition of some silk sunflowers and some leaves, it looked pretty. The arrangement looked nice but too short. Clearly, it needed a large statement piece in the center. Right? The black clock is on the wall upstairs now! I remembered having seen a large tray at one of the craft stores…
Yes, it definitely needed that big tray smack dab in the middle of the pumpkins and gourds! Dave asked me why I would put a tray there. I cocked my head sideways with a quizzical look on my face and just looked at him, saying nothing.
It needed more. You know how it is. I saw two candlesticks that were the same wood tone as the handles on the tray but, at the time, wasn’t sure they were needed. I imagined them on either side of the tray. Wouldn’t they look perfect there with the two rust-colored candles we have? Why didn’t I pick them up with the tray? Groan…
Disappointment and Jubilation
The store had an extra 20% off all sales the next day and I went early. I headed straight to the aisle with the trays and candle holders. Burn! Not one remains. So, a search through the store for any other options led to disappointment, too.
Next, venturing on to Joann Fabric and Craft store, I had hope. Two wood-toned candleholders were in the fall selection and made their way into my cart. Then, walking to the back and through the clearance section, I spotted some mercury glass candle holders! Wow! These are beautiful and they echo the silver tones on the tray. (We are an Amazon affiliate and may receive a small percentage of any sales through this link at no cost to you. Thanks for supporting this -website!)
Then, the wood-toned candle holders made their way back on the shelf. The mercury glass candle holders will make a beautiful Christmas presentation, too. There you go. Sometimes disappointment leads to something better!
Finished Autumn Mantel Display
This is my favorite autumn mantel display yet! The warm orange, yellow, and red tones contrast nicely with the silver, don’t they?
Now that the mantel is so warm and inviting, the room needs a little warming up, too.
The addition of a large pumpkin on the hearth and some more pumpkin and gourd sprays in the lantern add some weight to the right side of the fireplace. Some cranberry red tones in the pumpkins on the fireplace echo the throw on the chair, a pillow in the basket on the hearth, and a large candle in the lantern.
Fall is here. Although it is difficult to take down the spring and summer display and give in to the inevitable fall and winter seasons, the mantel display makes me smile. Has this inspired you to create an awesome display for your own autumn mantel?

Your fall mantel is beautiful, bright and cheery! Thanks for linking up with us at the #WednesdayAIMLinkParty 44
Thanks, Sylvia, and thanks for letting me share at your party.
I just took my summer mantel decor down yesterday. My poor mantel looks naked as a jay bird as my mom would say. Need to get out my fall things ASAP. Love how your different decorations make the mantel look unique with each season.
I love creating new looks but it seems I am most reluctant to let go of the spring and summer mantel decor. Last year’s quirky mantel has been my favorite of all. Taking it down was difficult! ►https://myhumblehomeandgarden.com/2018/03/04/quirky-spring-mantel/. Good luck with yours! Why don’t you share a picture of yours on my Facebook page? Would love to see it! ►https://www.facebook.com/Myhumblehomeandgarden/
I like using the golds and flowers. Right now I just have candles.I have been using fake apples and roses, it will go through fall and all the holidays.
The apples and roses sound lovely!
