Madison, Indiana – A Christmas Find You’ll Love

Madison, Indiana - A Christmas Find You'll Love

Who would think that a little afternoon visit to Madison, Indiana would lead to a Christmas find that you’ll love?

Monday morning, I told Dave we needed to go somewhere this week.  When I say we needed to go somewhere, I meant he needed to take me somewhere.  He has been fishing each of the last few days.  I have been here washing clothes, cleaning, grocery shopping, and decorating for Fall.

He came back Monday evening with fish and suggested we go to Madison, Indiana.  Guess he had thought about it out there on the lake.  Several people have been telling me I would love Madison and all the little shops in the historic part.  Of course, the answer was yes and so we went.

Historic Madison, Indiana

Main Street Madison, Indiana is lined with old storefronts and features a lot of antique, specialty shops, and craft stores.  On this day, there weren’t many shoppers but there were many friendly people.

In one of the shops, I saw this horse head sculpture.  Don’t you love this?  We don’t have any place perfect for this but is this amazing or what?

We visited many of the shops and in one of the shops, The Primitive Porch, this Santa Lighted Christmas Water Lantern Snow Globe Phone Booth caught my eye.  Isn’t this so cool?  I’ve never seen one of these before!

I took a picture with my camera.  We walked out of the store.  We went to another store.  I told Dave I really loved the Santa Water Lantern.  I could add it to our Santa collection.  To see part of that collection, click here ►Santa Collection.

Lunch

We decided to have lunch at Shooters.  We had some sweet tea and pork tenderloin fritters, aka pork tenderloin sandwiches.  This is a sandwich it seems is on the menu in many southern Indiana restaurants.  Growing up in southwestern Indiana, this sandwich has always been a favorite of mine, loaded with tomato, lettuce, and mayo.

It was huge!  I could only eat a third of mine, though Dave did finish his.

More Shopping in Madison, Indiana

Next, we went to the Antique Mall across the street.  Frankly, this store was a bit too much.  Too much was crammed into too many small spaces and it was too hard to focus on any one thing.  Overload.

The Ohio River

We decided to walk down to the river and just enjoyed the view.

Bridge from Madison, Indiana to Milton, Kentucky

The bridge from Madison, Indiana to Milton, Kentucky spans the river and certainly catches the eye.

This riverboat docked on the Indiana side seemed to be getting an overhaul.  We watched as they tried to maneuver what appeared to be a freezer through the doorway.  It was a tight squeeze.

After walking along the riverfront, we made our way back to Main Street and Dave asked if I wanted to buy the Santa.  Yes!  Yes, I did and so we made the walk back to The Primitive Porch.

The Santa Lighted Christmas Water Lantern Snow Globe Phone Booth was still there.  I asked the lady at the counter if she had another in a box.  She said that these had sold quickly and this was the last one but she would wrap it in bubble wrap for me and so she did.

Clifty Falls

With the Santa in a bag, we made our way back to the truck and drove to Clifty Falls State Park.  We had never been there before and it was only a few miles away.  We were hoping to see the falls but you have to walk trails to get to them.  Dave wasn’t up for that and neither was I.  My boots with heels were definitely not for walking trails.  We decided to come back another day when we could fully enjoy it.

Back Home

At home, I carefully unwrapped the Santa Phone Booth.  This is battery-operated and has a timer you can set.  I flipped the switch, the light came on, and it began to sparkle and shine.  I love this!  It hit me that these little Santas might be online and so I checked Amazon.  Yes, they are!
