Are you thinking about a fairy garden centerpiece to inspire your little ones?  There is just something magical about creating a little fairy garden, isn’t there?  I’m a sucker for miniatures and when we ordered this little fairy house and the two fairies arrived, Sophie and I were both excited.A Fairy Garden Centerpiece To Inspire Your Little Ones #Fairyhouse #Fairies #FairyCenterpiece #Fairy

Let me tell you one thing.  My pet peeve is ordering something and receiving it in a box that looks like it has been through a war zone, only to find the items inside loosely packed with no protection, dented, bent, broken, and in pieces!  Amazon packages always seem to arrive in perfect condition.

Fairies and Fairy House Details

These little fairies and the house were ordered through Amazon from Pretmanns, a family owned business.  They came so nicely packaged, perfectly protected, and in perfect condition.  This brought a smile to my face.  (We are an Amazon affiliate and may receive a small percentage of any sales through this link at no cost to you.  Thanks for supporting this website!)

The fairies are about 3-1/2″ tall and the fairy house is approximately 7-1/2″ tall.

For a few weeks, I’ve been trying to decide how to stage these miniature fairies and the house for a fairy garden centerpiece.  I considered a birdcage and Dave and I went antiquing.  No luck there.  A very large basket was another thought and that wasn’t found either.  Then, I considered a slice of a tree.  I love the texture of the bark on the side of the slice.  Joann’s has these at a reasonable price, especially if you have a 40 or 50 percent off coupon and I bought the largest one they had!  (I haven’t given up on the birdcage idea!  Wouldn’t these look adorable displayed in a birdcage?  More antiquing is in our future!)

Joann’s also had adorable flower buttons and some little backyard buddies buttons.  The little flower buttons remind me of the flowers in Walt Disney’s Bambi movie.  Remember those?

I also picked up a bag of sheet moss.  Last year, I picked up a bunch of acorns and thought they might come in handy for this project.

Directions For The Fairy Garden Centerpiece

Place the house on top of the moss. For a couple of weeks, I have been pondering what to use for the sidewalk.  I considered rocks and settled on a branch about 1-1/2″ to 2″ in diameter except that this year we have had a deluge and there is not a dry branch in the yard!  Rain, flooding, and mud in the backyard.  Tromping through the mud to retrieve a branch was oddly not compelling.

Add Details

Regroup, I found these faux moss stones at The local dollar store.  Initially, the plan was to use these for interest in the mossy areas, maybe as a stone for the fairies to rest upon.

Then, epiphany!  They fit perfectly on the path.  I showed them to Sophie and she agreed that they make a perfect walk!  (We are an Amazon affiliate and may receive a small percentage of any sales through this link at no cost to you.  Thanks for supporting this website!)

You can see that the little fairy bench on the right ended up being too large.  Cute as can be, yes, but it is too disproportionate.  So, taking some branches that had fallen to the ground from the river birch tree in our front yard, I made this little bench.

Remember the low-temperature glue gun used for the balloon column and the shabby chic roses?  That glue gun is perfect for putting this bench together.

 Directions For The Fairy Bench

First, cut two sticks the width (7/8″) of the seat you want to make.  Use the glue gun to add a row of long sticks (2-1/2″) that will make the seat.  You can see the glue on each side of the bench seat.  Ultimately, that glue will not show.

Add two short sticks for the front legs (7/8″) and two long sticks for the back legs ( 1-3/4″).  Add two sticks (7/8″) on each end, connecting the front leg with the back leg.  Measure across the top of the two back legs and cut a stick that length.  (This measurement is 2-3/8″.)

Clearly, I did not have a plan when this little bench began.  These dimensions are just what the bench ended up measuring.

Cut five pieces of the twigs to create spindles along the back of the bench.  These are glued with Tacky glue.  A curved piece of twig spans the top from end to end for a little additional interest.  Notice that the twigs used in the back clearly have little nubs of branches on them.  That just adds a little character, too.

Adding Moss and Flowers

Add some moss along both ends to cover up the glue and add interest.  This moss is actually reindeer moss but you can use other mosses, too.

Oh, my gosh!  Isn’t that adorable?

The tiny flowers used here are actually cut from a faux Queen Anne’s lace flower cap.  You can see in the picture that the green stem is cut and then one of the flowers on the tiny stems that make up the flower cap is cut.  It’s minute in comparison.A Fairy Garden Centerpiece To Inspire Your Little Ones #Fairyhouse #Fairies #FairyCenterpiece #Fairy

Placing The Fairies and Details

Add the bench and the little flower buttons.  Decide where the fairies will stand.  Next, use a 1/16″ bit to drill holes into the wooden slab where the fairies and sign stakes can be inserted.  Drill straight down right through the moss.  Be sure to drill deep enough for the stake to be hidden.

Then, add a little bunny button by the tree house!  I love this little centerpiece but will be on the lookout for some more tiny flowers to add to it.

Fairy Garden Centerpiece and Fairy Teacup and Saucer Set

A while back, I found this adorable tiny set of  6 Classic Coffee and Tea Dancing Fairies Espresso Cups and Saucers.  The cups are only 2-1/4″ tall, perfect for some little girls I know and a dainty little tea party.   There’s a future post coming on the party, the dainty tea sandwiches, and desserts!
