A ribbon wreath is beautiful but if you add some beautiful roses, it can be stunning. Sometimes it is hard to find the ribbon you want. Why not make fabric roses from the fabrics in your stockpile?

Supplies Needed For This Ribbon Wreath
You will need a Styrofoam wreath form as the base. The wreath I bought is a 15.8″ size.

I found this ribbon on Amazon. The roll has 25 yards of 1-1/2″ ribbon, plenty for this project. There are different colors of ribbon you can choose. This particular roll of ribbon is red and green with two gold stripes. The ribbon has a tiny bit of stretch, which is great for wrapping around the wreath.
For this wreath, it took roughly 14 yards of ribbon. Note that ribbon yardage will vary according to the diameter of the wreath and the width of the ribbon.
You will also need straight pins and scissors. Fabric glue or hot glue can be used, but why use those when simple straight pins will do the trick? Unfortunately, the ribbon can’t be used again because the roses and picks have to be glued to the ribbon on the wreath.
Applying The Ribbon
First, you need to secure the ribbon. Cut the end of the ribbon so you have a nice edge. Place the ribbon end on what will be the backside of the wreath. Push three or four straight pins through the ribbon and into the wreath form securing the ribbon to the Styrofoam.
Don’t overlap the ribbon too closely. You want the stripes to show relatively evenly around the wreath.
The easiest way to wrap the ribbon and keep it from getting into a tangled-up twisted mess is to move the ribbon roll around and through the wreath each time. You will find that the ribbon still twists as you go but not as badly. After securing the edge of the ribbon with a straight pin, pick up the ribbon roll and unwind the inevitable twisted ribbon.
Continue wrapping the ribbon, securing it with a pin now and then, until the loose ribbon is close to where the ribbon started.
When the ribbon completely covers the wreath, cut the ribbon allowing enough extra to fold under the end. Normally, you will want to make sure the end is on the backside of the wreath. In this case, if you have it at the top, you can completely cover it with the embellishments.
Make A Ribbon Hanger
Cut a length of ribbon and add it to the top of the wreath. Loop under the wreath form and over top of the pins at the end of the folded ribbon. Tie an overhand knot for hanging. Using a glue gun, attach the hanger to the wreath.
Ribbons and Embellishments
You can embellish your wreath in an endless number of ways using floral picks, silk flowers, fabric roses, and ribbons. I chose to make fabric roses and as you can see, a few seasonal picks add a little textural interest. These fabrics are from my leftover fabrics stash.
The Fabric Roses
Remember the easy fabric roses I made a while back? You can follow the directions for those to make coordinating roses to use for this project. There are three different styles. You won’t have to dye the fabric for the roses as I did. Choose festive fabrics in your color choice. If you choose multiple fabrics, you will want to have a common color thread in all of them. Even though there are other colors, these fabrics all have red and green in common. ►Directions for fabric roses.
You will want to make different sizes of the roses to add another element of interest. Everything identical and all the same size is not nearly as interesting.
Fabric With Metallic Thread
This plaid fabric is the first fabric I had in mind when considering fabrics to use. When I snipped the edge and tore the fabric, yikes! It started puckering as the metallic threads pulled. Simply holding the fabric on both sides of the fabric and pulling, remedied the pucker. Whew!
How Do Fabric Roses Look On The Ribbon Wreath?
Well, this is one of my tips. Hang the wreath and place the elements on top of the wreath to get an idea of how the flowers and pinecones are going to look on the ribbon wreath. I love it!
There is a ribbon bow coming, too, but you can see the roses coordinate with the wreath perfectly!
Making A Bow
You will need a wired ribbon to create a beautiful bow for the wreath. Click here ► to see how I make ribbon bows. In the linked post, the bow loops are attached to a ribbon wrapped around a gift. Just gather the loops as shown in the post and secure them with floral wire. After securing, cut the extra wire close to the bow. Then, cut another length of ribbon to tie around the middle of the loops. Use the glue gun to glue the wreath onto the ribbon and leave the tails on the ribbon. You can decide where to cut them again after all the elements are in place.
Glue The Bow And Greenery Picks In Place
Using the glue gun, attach the ribbon bow directly on top of the hanger loop on top of the wreath. Hold the bow firmly in the center and press against the wreath for a few seconds, making sure it is attached securely.
Next, cut the greenery pieces and bend them into a more natural position. Nature is not stiff and straight. You can see the difference in the stems in the picture.
Bend one to the left and one to the right following the contour of the wreath. Then, use the glue gun to apply glue to the stem and slip each underneath the loops of the bow to attach to the wreath.
Start Adding The Fabric Roses To The Ribbon Wreath
Place the roses on the wreath until you have a pleasing arrangement. Remember to take into account the pine cones. You are the master here. Cut elements from the picks to achieve a pretty effect. I used two of the berry greenery picks just cutting off the excess stem. For the third pick, I cut off stems to glue beneath the cluster of three ribbon roses.
Add Additional Pinecones
Below the fabric roses, add an additional pinecone. Cut one from the pick, using the glue gun, and add glue. Place at the base of the fabric roses. Clip the four ribbon ends in a ‘V’.
This wreath is so pretty. The pictures don’t do it justice.
What can you create with this post as an inspiration? Do you have a stash of fabric you could use for these fabric roses?
