How to beautifully decorate a sideboard buffet? Well, it isn’t difficult if your anchor piece is a beautiful work of art from Photowall! There are so many beautiful options, you are sure to be able to find one that fits your decor perfectly.
After being told to choose wallpaper, a wall mural, canvas print or a poster for my home, I narrowed it down to seven possibilities to hang over the kitchen sideboard. Ultimately, I chose the Lustre Arrangement – Purpur canvas print.

Ordering and Shipping The Print For The Sideboard
I placed the order on the 19th of March. It arrived here on Tuesday the 24th. That is pretty quick coming all the way from Sweden! Although I was excited to open the package, this nasty coronavirus is making life a little difficult. We sprayed the outside of the cardboard package with Lysol and left it alone for two days. Patience…
Opening the Package
Everything is packed neatly in the box. I removed everything from the box before opening the canvas. Unrolling it from the brown paper, I caught my breath! Is this print pretty or what?
Assembling The Canvas Print For The Sideboard
There it is, the one drawback – assembling the canvas print. I have to admit that I was a little tentative about the assembly. Don’t worry about this! They have made this so easy that anyone can do it!
Included are easy to follow step by step directions.
First, place the canvas print face down on a clean flat surface.
Next, remove the protective paper on the tape on one of the frame pieces.
Center the frame piece along the edge of the canvas.
Make sure the protruding lip faces toward the center of the canvas.
With your hand, smooth the canvas along the edge of the frame section firmly pressing the canvas and tape effectively attaching the canvas to the frame.
Repeat for each side.
Finish The Corners
Fold the corners of the canvas cloth up toward the tape on the ends of the wooden frame section. You can remove the little square in the corner. It is not needed.
Repeat for each corner.
Next, fold the frame sections inward. Your corners should fit together at an angle and look like the corner in the picture.
The Stainless Steel Corner Braces
Take one of the corner brace plates and position it in one of the corners matching up the holes in the wooden frame sections.
Next, insert four screws into the holes in the metal brace and into the frame. It seems to work better to screw all four into the holes just a few turns and then, continuing to tighten each a little at a time
Firmly tighten the screws to make the frame stable and to add tension to the canvas cloth.
Repeat for each of the remaining corners. How easy is that?
The Hanger
A hanger and screws are included in the package. It is pretty straight forward.
Before hanging, read through the tips below.
Go With The Flow
My original plan included a shopping trip to some of my favorite home stores and to find some new decorative pieces to complement the canvas print. Those plans were put to a halt by the coronavirus, social distancing, and store closings.
So, we go with the flow. On a mission, I began to go through the decorative pieces that we already have. Shopping at home can be fun and economical, too.
5 Simple Styling Tips To Decorate A Sideboard
1. A Blank Canvas
Clear off the sideboard before starting your decorating. You want a blank canvas.
Notice that there are three light switches on the left side of the picture. I paint our switch plates with the same paint used on the walls and then paint on polyurethane for protection. Those faceplates are really not pretty and by painting them, they visually are less noticeable. Imagine a white plate there! Yuk!
2. Anchor Piece
Start by hanging a chosen piece of art or your anchor piece on the wall. A standard rule is to hang a picture about 6 – 8 inches above the sideboard. This canvas print is 39.37 x 27.56 inches.
3. Add vertical elements
Add mood lighting with lamps or candles.
I ultimately chose two brass candle holders and wine-colored candles instead of lamps. Note that the wine color is close to the color of the center of one of the flowers.
The brass color of the candle holders is also very similar to one of the flowers. Pulling colors from an anchor piece and adding similar colors to the display is an easy way to create a cohesive look.
4. Decorative elements can be added to the sideboard next.
You can go crazy here or be a little more conservative. I am inclined to think simplicity is best. When we have a gathering, we often serve desserts or appetizers on the sideboard. It will be much easier to remove these five pieces, too!
As I look around the house, I see the clock from The Rustic Nail in Dillsboro, Indiana! ◄ Click through to read that post. The clock repeats the wine color of the candles and the flower center. It seems the perfect piece for the center of the display.
The two ceramic birds mimic the white flowers and the pattern of feathers on the birds seems to repeat the petals of the flower! They are perfect here!
5. Take a picture of the sideboard!
For some reason, you can look at something that you have created, styled, or made and not see a flaw. Take a picture and that flaw will often be revealed. If you’ve checked out some of my posts on wreaths, you already know that I use this technique!
So there it is. Using just 5 items from home, and a beautiful print, we have a lovely sideboard display.
Loving flowers, every time I pass by this beautiful print, I have to smile. Hope you enjoyed this post. Be safe!
