Fall Must Haves For Home and Decor

Ways of Transitioning to Fall Home Decor

Fall Seasonal Decor

Fall home decor typically starts on the mantel in our humble home. The rest of the room is dotted with colors or seasonal decor to reflect the mantel display.  This picture is from a couple of years ago.  It is one of my favorite fall mantel displays.

Autumnal Mantel Display

Each fall, I pull out the multiple bins, where we store fall decorations. I’ve accumulated a lot of pumpkins, silk sunflowers, silk mums, and a variety of gourds. Lots of these decorations can be picked up during sales and especially at the end of the season sales very inexpensively. En masse across the mantel, they make a grand statement.

A variety of sizes and shapes makes your display more interesting.  Consider that as you choose your items.

You can find these online but be careful to note the size of the faux pumpkins and gourds.  Pictures can be deceiving. A display of 2-1/2 – inch high pumpkins will not make much of a splash on a mantel! The pumpkins in this Amazon offering include 1 Large Pumpkin: 6-1/2″ H x 9″ diameter | 2 Medium Pumpkins: 4″ H x 4-1/2″ diameter | 2 Small Pumpkins: 3″ H x 3″ diameter | 2 Medium Gourds: 4-1/2″ H x 3″ diameter | 1 Small Gourd: 3″ H x 3″ diameter.

Pillow Covers – Fall Home Decor

One of my favorite ways of changing up the decor in a room is by adding pillow covers.  We have so many pillows, we really don’t need anymore.  Just ask Dave!  Lol!

With these simple inexpensive fall pillow covers, you can completely change the look of a pillow and a room.  You can find them in a variety of rich fall colors and styles at some of your local stores and on Amazon. Look for some textural pillows in fall colors or buffalo plaids.

That doesn’t mean you have to buy new pillows every time the season changes. If you can sew a straight line, whip up a new pillowcase. Can we talk about a simple project?

Can’t sew? Pillow covers of every color, texture, shape, and pattern can be bought in stores and on the internet on many different sites!

These fall pillow covers from Amazon are especially perfect for the country home, but there are a ton of other styles. You can find covers in a variety of rich fall colors, fabrics, designs, and styles on Amazon, Hobby Lobby, and JOANN Fabrics.

Don’t have an abundance of pillows?  You can find throw pillow inserts on Amazon, too.

Fall Home Decor Blankets or Throws

Display a couple of pillows and a throw in a textural basket for easy access and added color. On cool days or nights, they’ll come in handy and they look pretty, too.

The key to creating harmony with color is spreading the color throughout the room. If all the fall color is on one side of the room, it will look lopsided, right? Spread those colorful fall pillows, throws, and objects around to create a visual balance of color in the room. Remember to use different textures as well as colors. As you look at your room, those fall pops of color should lead your eye throughout the entire room.

Anytime I think of coziness, I think of soft velvety or textural throws draped over the chairs and sofas with lots of pillows, don’t you?

Seasonal Soap

Ahhh! The smells of Autumn in soap, like this Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Gentle Foaming Hand Soap, will add another layer of fall to your home.

We usually have seasonal soaps in decorative containers in the half bath on the main floor. Our youngest granddaughter, Memphis, remembers the soap in the Santa container and when she comes to visit, regardless of the time of year, she often requests to use that soap dispenser!

Don’t you love sunflowers?  They remind me of the fall, too.  This Sunflower foaming shea butter hand soap by Michel Design Works is perfect for adding to the half bath.  The bottle is so pretty and it smells so good!

I also love this Fall Harvest Michel Design Works Scented Foaming Hand Soap. The containers are classy looking and very appealing, aren’t they?

 Seasonal Fall Home Decor Signs

Decorate With Fall Signs

Don’t you love seasonal signs? Numerous signs, which encourage reading, make their way onto our walls and into our mantel and tabletop decor. Words just seem to draw your attention, don’t they?

I picked these up at JOANN Fabrics and the craft store. You can find similar signs at craft stores and also on Amazon. Although these are made of wood, there are a lot of metal signs out there that are very appealing, like this colorful Homebody Accents Autumn Words Subway Metal Sign. This Autumn sign measures 16″x 12″ and I’m thinking we might need it, too.  You’ll have to come back to see how I’ve used these signs in an upcoming post!

The Fall Sweet Fall sign ends up being a hanging sign for the kitchen window…  You’ll love this idea, which involves iron brackets, a dowel, artificial berry garland, and a couple of lanterns.  You won’t want to miss it!

Eucalyptus, Mini Pumpkins, Gourds, and Flowers Fall Home Decor Tablescape

A Beautiful Table Runner

Tan buffalo check table runner.

Don’t you love a pretty table runner?  I decided to have a dress rehearsal for our Thanksgiving tablescape.  My idea is to use eucalyptus, which you see at a lot of wedding receptions now.

The eucalyptus can be found at floral shops and is very inexpensive.  Silver-blue eucalyptus leaves make a perfect background for mini pumpkins, gourds, and votives or one of the Thanksgiving tin cans I made a couple of weeks ago!  ◄Click here.

A tan buffalo check table runner is the base for this display but I’m thinking of using a burlap runner for our Thanksgiving tables.

Placing The Eucalyptus Base

Place two of the eucalyptus stem ends together in the center of the table runner.  Then, fill in around the two until you have a nice foundation.  You can cut and fill in more leaves if you need them.

Mini Pumpkins and Gourds

I picked up some mini gourds at the nursery.  There are so many different colors, shapes, and sizes.  The kitchen table is only 3 feet by 5 feet so I limited the number I bought.

Faux pumpkin and Eucalyptus

This larger faux pumpkin caught my eye and I thought it would look pretty with eucalyptus.  Yes, the display will have a combination of real gourds and faux pumpkins, and this one is placed first.  To fill in the greenery, little stems of the eucalyptus can be added after the pumpkins, gourds, and flowers have been placed.

The Floral Arrangement

Then, I remember the Thanksgiving tin cans and flowers.  The mums aren’t blooming yet but the Thumbelina zinnias are blooming like crazy.  Not long ago, I bought these metal frogs for mason jars but they fit perfectly in this tin can that I made from a Gold Star Chili Pop Top Can.

It’s not a big deal if you don’t have one but they do come in handy.  If you don’t have one, just cut strips of tape in half and create a grid on the can top. Teacup zinnia arrangement.◄ Click here for the how-to.

Add your cut flowers.  It really couldn’t be simpler.

Fall Home Decor – Create a Soft Scented Glow With A Soothing Crackle Sound

Although candles are nice all year, it seems they are especially nice when fall arrives, doesn’t it?  What is better than a soft scented glow from a candle?  Maybe a soothing crackle sound?

Have you seen these wooden wick candles?  This one is ‘Harvest Spice’.  It smells so wonderful and reminds me of mulled apple cider.  I don’t even have to light the wick to enjoy it!  But, when the wick is lit, it crackles as it burns!

If you can’t find them locally, Amazon does have some, like this cinnamon bun wooden wick candle.  I don’t know how long these have been around but I love them!

  2. Debra, just pulling out my fall bins makes me happy!
Thanks for adding delightful fall finds and timely advice to your post. Remembering to check the sizes of items on line is an important point.
Question did you order the mason frog online? I would love to have some of those – they are so handy for flower arranging.
Happy to hop with you a second week:)

    1. Rachelle, I’m not a fall person but I have to admit the reds and oranges put a smile on my face. Rushing to get this done on time, I forgot to add the Amazon link in the post. I’ve taken care of that! These are 2-5/8″ in diameter. They fit perfectly on a Mason jar with the ring to hold it in place. This link should go straight to that site. There is another size for the wide mouth jars. Just be sure you’re ordering the right one.
Website issues behind me, I’m really beginning to enjoy the hop!

  3. Debra, these are lovely choices to make your home cozy and welcoming for fall. What is it about candles with fall scents? It is the perfect time of year for those fragrances filling our homes, right? I have used metal frogs over glass vases, but I had never seen these, I will be picking up some of these for sure! Happy Fall!!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Chloe! Yes, I love these fall scented candles. It’s funny that I don’t think of scented candles in the spring or summer. Maybe because we have so many flowers!

    2. Thanks for visiting, Chloe! Yes, you’re right! I love these fall scented candles. It’s funny that I don’t think of scented candles in the spring or summer. Maybe because we have so many flowers!

  4. Oh my gosh – frogs for cans – who would have thought! That’s the coolest Debra! Love all your other finds too! Such a lot of fun and useful things out there! 🙂 Happy Fall and see you next time!

    1. Thanks, Barb! The frogs work perfectly on the chili can and sweetened condensed milk cans, too. There may be others, but I know they work on these. Thanks for stopping by!
