Typically, I decorate the mantel and then, decide whether or not to make a banner. This year, a chic spooky pennant banner precedes the Halloween mantel display. Then, using this pin on Pinterest as the inspiration, this is my mantel display.
Steps For Creating This Halloween Mantel Display
The mantel display begins with a black twig wreath centered on the wall above the mantel.
Next, add a little antique-looking clock and candles in candle holders on the other side to balance the clock.
Bring out the glittery black crows! A crow on top of the clock adds a little height. Another in front of the mercury glass candle holder add weight to the right side.
Dollar Tree Skull for The Halloween Mantel

Believe it or not, this chic blinged-out skull is a Dollar Tree find! By spray painting with Silver Paint (Krylon Color Blast in Silver Metallic,) antiquing with black acrylic craft paint, and gluing on baubles, this look can be duplicated.
Next, add a double bow. Wire the double bow together leaving lengths of wire tails so it is easy to attach to the wreath. Just use hot glue to attach the bow to the skull’s chin. Once the glue is cooled, attach the skull and bow to the wreath with the florist wire.
You can find directions for painting and adding rhinestones, pearls, and beads ◄ here. The process is the same as the process used for the chic skeleton wreath featured last week.
More Orange and Silver
In the Halloween bin, I stumble upon the mercury glass pumpkin and two little rusty orange pumpkins detailed with gold glitter. The little orange pumpkins echo the orange in the banner.
It seems a little more silver is needed so, I use the same Krylon silver paint to paint a pumpkin. First, I remove the stem and then spray the silver paint onto the pumpkin using light coats and allowing each to dry. Yes! So, I painted more.
The rusty orange pumpkins reminded me that pillar candles in almost the same color are in the bin. Replacing the off-white pillar candle with one of those seems a perfect touch.
Add Another Layer of Bead Garland
After looking at the mantel, it seemed the banner needed some more weight. Another strand of wooden beads would be too much. We have a lot of pony beads but they aren’t black. We have black spray paint…
Using the same technique as I used for the wooden beads, the colorful plastic beads are soon shiny black. I also found some clear orange beads. To paint the beads, I used Rust-Oleum Universal Black Gloss Spray Paint.
You can see another use for those Oui yogurt jars, too! Lol!
I used another length of 1/8 – inch black satin ribbon to string the black and orange pony beads. Two strands of beads and the pennant seem to balance what is going on in the mantel display.
So, what do you think? I love it!

Something about those crows…perfect!
They definitely add some character, don’t they, Michele?
I’ve been wanting to spruce up my home for fall and Halloween so I’m so glad I found your blog! I’m obsessed with how this turned out, so chic! I just got a professional carpet cleaning in Wappingers Falls, NY and I hope I can remake my mantle to look just like yours. My living room is going to look stunning! Now I just need to find some cute throw pillows to tie it all together.
