Perfect Romantic Dinner Ideas And Valentine’s Day Tablescape

The Perfect Romantic Valentine's Day Tablescape For Two

Aren’t these perfect romantic dinner ideas and a lovely Valentine’s Day tablescape for two?  I love the color combination of black, white, and red.  When I saw a table runner that had a bold black background and the look of white chalk writing on it, a search for a similar fabric began.  It would be easy to make one of these.

Drat!  The only fabrics available are tiny chalk manuscript writings.  The large chalk-look print on the runner is what caught my attention.  You can see the inspiration for this tablescape from Home-dsgn.com ◄ here.

Plan 2, I thought maybe I could just find one to buy.  A search on the internet was on and nope, couldn’t find one anywhere.

Plan 3, purchase a black runner.  I found this black linen table runner on Amazon.  Although there are other runners with designs on them, the simplicity of the plain black is appealing.  We are more likely to use it on many occasions, more so than a Valentine’s table runner.

Romantic Red Roses

Simply elegant, red roses in tiny vases.  First, fill two-thirds full with red flat glass marbles.  Then, add water.  Next, cut the stems of the roses and insert them in the middle of the glass marbles.  The flat glass marbles help to support the stems.

Romantic Dinner Ideas – Valentine Heart Napkins

For a romantic Valentine’s dinner, isn’t it perfect to have napkins folded into a heart shape?

Here are ten easy steps for folding a heart napkin.

#6 – Grasp the left corner and pull up alongside the edge of the previous fold.

#7 –  Carefully, holding the shape, turn the napkin over.  Keep the point at the bottom toward you.

#8 – Fold over two of the four corners at the top to make two small triangles.

#9 – Fold the remaining two corners, forming two more small triangles at the top.

#10 – Carefully, turn the napkin over again and you have a perfect heart to grace your plate.

Romantic Valentine Dinner Idea

And, on the menu this year for our Romantic Valentine’s dinner:

  • Italian salad with Romaine lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and homemade croutons
  • Grissini – Thin Breadsticks
  • Grilled Filet Mignon
  • *Smashed Taters
  • Oven-roasted Green Beans
  • Cherries Jubilee Dessert

*Smashed Taters

You may be wondering what smashed taters are.  When we first moved to Kentucky, a restaurant opened up in Florence.  It was owned by Gary Burbank, a local radio personality.  Smashed taters were on the menu. I had never heard of them before.

Smashed taters are basically potatoes with the skins left on, sliced, and then, cooked in water.  Yukon Gold potatoes are perfect for this!  I have this down to an art.  I cut the potatoes about 1/2 – inch thick, place them in a saucepan, cover them with cold water, bring them to a boil, cover them with a lid, lower the heat, and simmer for 12 minutes.  A knife should glide through the potatoes easily when they’re done.

Then, just strain the water off of the potatoes.  (I usually just use the lid to hold the potatoes and pour off the hot water.)

Add butter, salt, and pepper.  Smash the potatoes and butter with a fork.  It doesn’t take long.  Pour in a little cream to loosen up the consistency a bit.  Don’t worry about getting all of the lumps out!  This isn’t fancy French cuisine!

Taste and add more butter, salt, and pepper, as needed.  Serve hot.

In the comfort of your own home, you can create a simple romantic dinner with these decorating and menu ideas for two.
