Directions
Cut The Tubes To Size
Although there are different kinds and shapes of cardboard tubes, some are flimsier than others. The tubes in Reynold’s Wrap and Glad Wrap are a bit smaller in diameter and heavier, too. These are the ones to use. They hold their shape better.
First, you need to cut the tube into 2-inch lengths. I use a serrated knife and a cutting board to cut the tube. Just mark the tube at 2-inches around the circumference of the tube, and then, cut with the knife, rolling the tube as you cut. Mark at 2-inches again, cut, and repeat until you have the amount you need.
Cut And Glue The Gift Wrap
The gift wrap I have is marked in 1-inch squares. This makes this craft even easier! Cut a 4-inch square of gift wrap.
Paint a two-inch strip of glue in the middle of the piece of gift wrap. Lay the tube in the center of the glue. Quickly, wrap the paper around the tube and make sure the checks line up nicely.
Smooth the gift wrap over the tube with your fingertips.
Continue gluing and smoothing the gift wrap, making sure the check lines up!
You’ll need sharp scissors that cut all the way to the end of the sharp point. Cut tabs all the way around and to the edge of the tube. Paint the Mod Podge on the backside of the gift paper tabs a couple at a time. Fold the tabs over the edge and adhere to the inside of the tube.
Since the paper is cut into a 4-inch square, two-inches will be on the outside, and the one-inch on each end will meet, or almost meet, on the inside.
Apply the Mod Podge to the inside and outside of the napkin ring. Leave one edge on one end free of glue so you can set the tube on edge to dry. Allow it to dry. Then, apply another coat, making sure you cover the unglued end and leave the opposite end dry so you can set it on end. Allow the glue to dry overnight and it’s ready to use!
