Isn’t this a perfectly pretty pink Valentine’s Day mantel? A few days ago, I shared how to make these cute heart banners. Normally, you wouldn’t start a mantel display with the banners! This is an exception. Rules are made to be broken, right?
Base Pieces For The Valentine Mantel
I love this arch. It makes a nice textural background. You can see that as the composition began, it is placed right in the middle of the mantel.

Then, I remembered this pink astilbe heart wreath stored in a bin in the basement. Using a clear twist tie, I attach the ribbon holder to the arch.
Next, the metal Love sign is placed in front of the arch. At that point, I moved the arch to the left, off-center. Stepping back and looking at the wreath with the arch, three clear pink vases stored in a cabinet came to mind. They help balance the Love sign.
Add Flowers To The Valentine’s Day Mantel
The pink in the wreath and vases gives me the idea to continue with pink roses. I picked up two silk flower bushes at the craft store. My plan to buy all roses didn’t quite pan out, but the pink peonies look almost like double roses and they are almost exactly the same color of pink as the roses.
To begin, I cut the rose bush into 5 separate little bushes. Then, cut each of the peonies stems at the base of the bush.
Then, I wire two of the cut rose bush pieces to the arch, ends overlapping, facing opposite directions on the top right corner. Another section of the rose bush is wired to the lower-left portion of the arch. Clear twist ties were used for this but you can use floral wire if you don’t have clear twist ties.
Then, with the peony stems, just fill in around the previously wired rose bushes. Add a few at both ends and place one in each pink bottle.
At this point, it seemed some wispy greens need to be added to the mantel display. Fortunately, I have some leftover from the Easter egg topiaries I made last spring. The greenery adds interest and helps soften the edges.

Some of the peony stems have a second set of leaves. I pushed these up the stem to help hold the flower in place in the mouth of the bottle. Looking at the mantel, the extra leaves on those just look too bulky, don’t they? So, I remove them.
