Is there anything better than icy cold lemonade on a hot day? Well, yes, cherry lemonade tastes even better and has a lovely deep pink color. Don’t you always have leftover maraschino cherry juice? If you haven’t tried it, you need to make this easy cherry-flavored lemonade.
It’s surprising that the cherry lemonade is not over-sweet. It just has a nice refreshing flavor.
To make it easy, use a citrus juicer and reamer like this old glass one we’ve had for 50 years! There are so many new fancy juicers, but I like the old-fashioned ones that will sit on top of the 2-cup measuring. This makes it easy to capture the lemon juice. It can go right in the dishwasher, too.
Lemons For Cherry Lemonade
My experience is that those big, beautiful lemons don’t have as much juice as the smaller lemons. It seems the large lemons have a thicker peel but a limited amount of juice. Choose the smaller lemons for lemonade. It only took 6 of these smaller lemons to make a full cup of fresh lemon juice.
Cherry Lemonade
Ingredients:
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup maraschino cherry juice
- 4 cups chilled 7-Up (or lemon-lime-flavored carbonated beverage)
- Garnish: lemon slices, maraschino cherries, fresh mint
Directions:
Pour the water, lemon juice, sugar, and cherry juice into a glass pitcher. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Place in refrigerator and chill until time to serve.
Slowly, pour the 7-Up into the chilled liquid in the pitcher. Stir to combine the liquids. Serve in pretty glasses or vintage soda shop glasses over crushed ice. Garnish with a lemon slice, a cherry, and a sprig of fresh mint. Makes 8-3/4 cups cherry lemonade.
Isn’t this such a pretty drink? Yet, it is so simple to make!
