At the front door, what is better than zombie flamingos in pots?
These zombie flamingos are from Cyndi’s Garden Center. at 3399 Lawrenceburg, North Bend, Ohio. The plants and pumpkins are from there, too. Everyone around has mums but how about this unique combination? In the back is Purple Flash, an ornamental pepper. It grows about 15 – inches tall. Doesn’t it look great with the flamingos?
Osaka white flower cabbages have creamy-white centers and green outer leaves. Smaller than a lot of ornamental cabbages, they grow
You’ve heard of wave petunias, but did you know there are wave pansies? These are Cool Wave Purple pansies. They spread twice as much as regular pansies, which means lots of flowers! The plants grow 6-8 inches high and spread 24 – 30 inches wide.
The plants look perfect with the zombie flamingos, don’t they?

#5 Refractory Cement Skulls In The Fire Pit
This year, I made 2 more cement skulls, using the rest of the cement in the bucket. One bucket of refractory cement makes a total of 6 skulls. There is also ‘refractory cement’ that needs to be Caution! Don’t use regular cement for a fire pit skull! It could explode in the fire!
You can find tips and step-by-step directions for making these skulls ◄ here.
You may also need Fireplace Tongs to move the skulls around as the wood burns down.
And, the coolest thing you want is Magical Flames! I never knew there was such a thing. My youngest son, Will, suggested these. Of course, I looked and found this packet of five on Amazon. These are so cool!
The colorful flames lasted longer than I expected. Several trick-or-treaters commented on the colorful fire.
#6 Creepy Light Switch
On our way to Dauphin Island last summer, we stopped at Cracker Barrel for lunch. I saw this creepy light switch cover and thought the grandkids would love it. You just remove the cover and replace it with this cover.
I’m not sure how many times it was turned on and off over Halloween, but the battery is still working! It might have amused me even more than the kids. Lol!
#7 DIY Halloween Cleopatra Costume
Does your little girl or granddaughter have an American Girl Doll or an 18-inch doll? My granddaughter loves her babies. I saw a pattern for little girls and it included a doll pattern for all 3 of the different views.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find an appropriate pattern at the fabric store. But I did find this Simplicity pattern on eBay.
I have been fascinated with Cleopatra for many years. The gold beaded headpiece is mine from a costume I wore many years ago. Memphis wore it well. You can find a very similar beaded headpiece ◄ here.
Memphis wanted the dress to be gold. I found gold satin for the dress and a sheer glittery knit for the cape at the fabric store. Here in Northern Kentucky, Halloween can be hot or cold. You just never know. In retrospect, my decision to alter the pattern and make the dress sleeveless was probably not a good one. However, she wore a black knit shirt under it and all is good.
The belt is from a local costume store. It had to be adjusted and sewn to fit around her. To keep the belt in position, I tacked it on both sides. This would be an easy belt to make from gold lamé fabric and a purchased ribbon with the Greek key pattern.
I did make a costume for her doll, too. The dress fits perfectly. You can see her cape, too. Although she didn’t bring it on this night, she can play dress-up with it for a long time.
#8 Chick-fil-A Cows
Sophie sent me a text on Tuesday night. I looked at it and shook my head. The text read, “Mom said she didn’t want to take me to Party City, but I need to get a cow onesie.”
She sent a picture of the costume. I sent a text back. “That is ridiculous. Is that what you want to wear for Halloween?”
Her reply was, “Yeah!!! We’re gonna make signs that say: Eat more chicken.”
Lol! How could I say no? To make a long story short, when we picked her up after school on Wednesday, we went to two Halloween stores and Party City. Her friend, Chrissy, had already bought her costume a day before. The stores looked like they had been stripped and there must have been a run on cow costumes. So, we looked on Amazon and did find this slim-fit cow pajama which said it would be delivered the night before Halloween.
And it was! It came vacuum-packed and looked pretty strange. I sent the picture above to Sophie. Once removed from the package, misted with a little water, and tumbled on low in the dryer, it looked much better.
A friend made the signs for them and the girls looked pretty dang cute!
Hopefully, you have seen something that inspires you! Happy Halloween!
