When was the last time you had homemade sloppy joes? I’ve used this sloppy Joe recipe for years. When the kids were still at home, it was a quick meal on many nights.
For whatever reason, this just sounded good today. It’s rainy, gray, and cold and some good old comfort food seems warranted. You probably have all the ingredients on hand, too.
Sloppy Joe Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- ½ cup finely chopped onion
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- ½ cup ketchup
- 3 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon prepared mustard
- 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 Tablespoon white vinegar
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
Directions:
First, melt the butter in a hot skillet.
Then, add the ground beef to the pan. Cook over medium heat until the meat is brown. Toss in the chopped onions.
Cook until the chopped onions are transparent.
Add the spices, brown sugar, mustard, ketchup, vinegar, and Worcestershire to the meat.
Stir. Then, add the tomato sauce and mix well.
Cover with a lid and simmer for 20 – 25 minutes.
Serve on burger buns.
