You know when you have created a successful mantel display if you are reluctant to take it down. I loved the Halloween mantel display this year. Alas, I have to embrace fall and the Thanksgiving party is right around the corner. A trip to Michael’s netted me this sunflower picture. It is the inspiration for this year’s simple fall mantel decorating idea with sunflowers. I love the newspaper print in the background.
Wheat Bundles
The wheat bundles I made a couple of years ago caught my eye in one of the bins and made their way to both ends of the mantel. Notice a visual triangle is beginning to take shape.
Even though this is fall mantel decor, I left out the pumpkins on the mantel. Don’t you like the softer look of this mantel display? The only thing I purchased is the sunflower picture. The rest of the items are from the storage bins.
Shop Your Fall Decor Stash
It’s not necessary to buy everything new. It’s a good idea to shop for what you have at home!
Bead Garlands for the Fall Mantel Decor
While you can drape bead garlands across the mantel symmetrically, I like the offset look. You may remember the bead garland made from wooden beads painted silver and brown and black pony beads strung on ribbon. One of those little Command hooks holds the garland securely.
Wooden Word Sign
The happy harvest wood decor echoes the sunflower’s brown center and the bead garland’s brown beads.
Birds for the Fall Mantel Decor
Next, I place the white doves between two candles on each side. We’re beginning to create a smaller visual triangle on each side.
Ceramic Artichokes
Adding ceramic artichokes in a subdued green carries the green color in the stem and leaves through the display. Now that triangular composition is really evident. You can’t go wrong by creating visual triangles in your design.
Sunflowers in the Fall Mantel Decor
Then, tuck sunflowers in around the decorative objects.
