How to Wrap a Small Gift – Gift Box Hack

How to Wrap a Small Gift - Gift Box Hack

Have you ever had the need for a small gift box, but only have large boxes on hand?  Do you have extra gift boxes and no lid, or vice versa?  Here’s a great way to use those extras!  I’ve used this technique several times and this is a perfect gift box hack!

After making the real money notepad, I needed a gift box.  The smallest one that would accommodate the money pad is 8 x 13 x 1 – inches.  It’s definitely deep enough, but too long.

Lay the folded and flat gift box or lid out on a hard surface.  Bring the bottom folded edge up to the bottom cut edge of the side of the box.

Next, crease along the fold.   Then, turn the box around to the opposite end and bring the bottom folded edge up to the bottom cut edge of the side of the box again.

Crease the bottom fold.  Then, open up the box.

Then, cut flaps along the sides of the narrow middle folded section.  See the picture above.

Apply glue to the outside of the little flaps you created.  Then, adhere to the inside of the box edge.

Fold and lay tissue paper in the box.  Don’t just toss the gift in a box!  Adding that little bit of tissue paper is another layer of surprise and it makes a gift seem more special.

If the box is still a little big, roll up some bubble wrap or tissue paper.  I placed it at the bottom of the money notepad so the ribbon wouldn’t be squished.  Fold the tissue paper up from the bottom, and then, fold the top down over the money notepad.

Close the box and wrap it!  You can find how to wrap your gift with a Japanese fan fold.  It is deceptively easy, and doesn’t it look difficult?  Add a pretty ribbon and tie a bow.  Your gifts will be the envy of all of your friends and family!
