How to Draw More People to Your Yard Sale

How to Draw More People to Your Yard Sale

If you’re planning a yard sale and want as much traffic as possible, you need to read this post.  We have a community yard sale each fall.  Although there were over fifty participants in this yard sale, not many were located in our part of the subdivision.

In the past, I’ve posted a sign in the front yard, which read, “Yard Sale.”  I know those were not very creative.  This time, I felt it needed a little more oomph.

For inspiration, I searched on Pinterest.  Several yard sale signs caught my eye.

Neon Pink Poster Board

I chose two of the signs I wanted to create.  Then, I went to Dollar Tree and bought two neon pink poster boards.  The poster boards measure 28 x 22 inches.  That bright pink color catches everyone’s eye and you get the attention you want.

Black Chisel Tip Marker

For writing on the poster board, you want a thick chisel tip marker.  How many times have you seen a sign that someone made with a fine-line marker?  You can’t easily read those from your car as you pass by.  Choose a thick marker.

The best best best best best junk ever sign is easy to keep relatively uniform by writing BEST with a pencil on a piece of tracing paper.  Then, line up and trace onto the poster board.  Use the marker to draw over the top of your tracing.

For reference, I left 1 inch at the top, the BEST letters are 4 inches high, and there’s 3/8 inch between each row.

TIP*
Make the print simple and easy to read!  This is not the time for fancy hard to read lettering.

Price Tags

Sticky Note flags and Scotch Tape are perfect for making price tags for your yard sale items.  These are handy because you can write what the object is along with the price if you like.  Use a dark pen or black marker to write on these little strips.  Simply tear off a piece of tape, attach it to the front of the flag, and wrap it around a hanger hook.  Tape to flat objects.  This tape comes off easily and doesn’t destroy the items.

Use Sticky Note Flags for Sales Tags

The bright colors of the Sticky Note flags are a lot more visible than a tag with a white background.

Lots of people don’t want to ask how much an item is if it is not marked.  Be sure to mark all of your items with an easy-to-read tag.

Yard Sale Sign Conclusion

Those two little signs I made got so much attention, I can’t believe it!  One lady drove past, turned around in the intersection, and parked in front of our house.  She said she was looking for that life-changing experience and loved my sign!

Another gentleman was walking his two dogs.  He came up and told me my signage was brilliant!  He took pictures of the signs and sent them to his buddy.  Lol!

Several people took pictures of the signs and shared them.  Whoever thought these up is a genius.

Seriously, at least 90% of the shoppers commented on the signs.  It is surprising how many men commented on them.  As they laughed, a lot of people told me they had to stop simply because of the signs!
