A Colorful Balloon Arch Inspires a Beautiful Spring Garden.
Visions of flowers, birds, butterflies, and beautiful spring gardens have filled my mind for months. The time finally came to begin the actual work in the garden. For a very good reason, I had the vision of lots of beautiful pink flowers, bright colorful pinks, not pastel. You see, the inspiration was a pin on Pinterest. It wasn’t a pin of flowers, or birds, or butterflies. It was a balloon arch. You can find how to make a balloon arch here. ►partyideas.craftgossip.com
Shhhh! Don’t tell! Late summer, I am planning an outside bridal shower for Emily and a beautiful arch of balloons against the wall next to the patio is my dream! So, the flowers will just reinforce the color choice. I love the hint of flowers and greenery added to this particular balloon arch. What a big statement this makes!
Pink Annuals
Snapdragons
I found these ‘Montego Pink Snapdragons’ and couldn’t resist. It rained a few hours after they were planted. Raindrops on flowers make beautiful pictures. Snapdragons grow well in full sun to part shade. These grow 8 – 10-inches tall.
Gazania
This daisy-like flower is a ‘Gazania’. Gazanias are native to Southern Africa. They are drought tolerant and grow well in full sun. At night, the flowers close up and open again in the morning sun. While they are perennials in Zones 9 – 11 in the United States, they can be grown as annuals elsewhere.
I couldn’t resist buying a couple of 4-packs of these unique pink flowers. These grow 8 – 10-inches tall. The big daisy-like blossoms cover what becomes a mounded plant and they bloom until frost! I love the unique centers of these blossoms.
Wave Petunias
Wave petunias are one of my favorite annuals. This year we picked up a white variety and this ‘Easy Wave Plum Vein’. The actual blooms are a hot pink color with deep veining. The white is a nice contrast to some of the pinks. These provide a big mound of large, bright blooms up to 3″ across all summer long. These grow 6 – 12-inches tall and spread 30 – 40-inches wide.
Several pots on the patio, the walk, and the old millstone have been planted with the wave petunias. In no time, there will literally be waves of bright pink and white petunias. When transplanting these, I always use Miracle-Gro Quick Start Planting and Transplant Starting Solution. (We are an Amazon affiliate and may receive a small percentage of any sales through these links at no cost to you. Thanks for supporting this website!) Just add a capful of this to 2 gallons of water and pour over your freshly transplanted flowers or vegetables. This gives transplants the nutrients they need for a great start and stimulates root growth. Miracle-Gro Plant Fertilizer is what I use to feed the plants every two weeks for the rest of the season. Feeding them with this makes a huge difference!
Wall Planters
Remember the wall planters I lined with burlap for the last few years? The old burlap liners were removed again and replaced with new burlap before pink petunias and Gazanias were planted. I much prefer this method to the coconut liners you can purchase. You can find easy DIY instructions using burlap and twist ties here ►DIY Burlap Planter Liner.
Front Door Planters
At the front door, two large pots with spikes planted in the center feature a circle of pink petunias, peach colored calibrachoa, (also known as million bells,) and euphorbia. Euphorbia reminds me of tiny white ballet slippers.
My plan for the party is to also add a smaller balloon arch to the arbor, which beckons visitors around the house and into the backyard. That initial pop of color and all of the flower pots will lead to the large pièce de résistance on the patio and a table laden with delicious desserts.
Anytime I plan or help decorate for an event, I try to come up with an attention getter. One huge statement that immediately catches your eye is so much more powerful than a bunch of little items strewn around an area.
Imagine little bouquets of balloons dotted across the yard. Now, imagine a huge balloon arch against the patio wall. You need a focal point, a show stopper! That “Ahhh…” moment you can see on your guests’ faces is what we are talking about here! Make a big splash with color and people will remember that. I am so looking forward to this event!
