Remember last January and my discovery of the French Oui yogurt jar?  You can click here for that post ► What To Do With These French Yogurt Jars.  Well, I have come up with some more ideas and uses for these adorable little jars.

Oui Yogurt Jar Bird Feeder

The bonus to this is that taking pictures is so much easier with them right outside the French doors in the kitchen.  A frequent visitor here is a tufted titmouse.  I affectionately named him George.  He perches on the window ledge and pecks on the window when the seeds are gone.  Isn’t that the funniest thing?  It’s as if he is saying, “Deb, we need more seeds out here.”

The little yogurt jars have a rim around the top, where they can wrap their little feet around it perfectly.

Preparing The Oui Jar For Crafts

Before you repurpose your Oui jars, you want to remove the glue residue after removing the label.  Goo Gone works perfectly on the sides of the jar, but that glue left from the foil lid is another story.

The Goo Gone did not work.  Alcohol did not work.  Even a Brillo Pad did not work.  I finally tried an emery board and sanded the residue off nicely.  (We are an Amazon affiliate and may receive a small percentage of any sales through links on this page at no cost to you.  Thanks for supporting this website!)

Wash the Oui yogurt jar, inside and out, with dish soap and water.  Just before painting, you want to wipe the outside of the glass jar with alcohol and allow it to dry for a few seconds.  This will remove any oils

Sea Glass Jars

Using Martha Stewart Crafts Glass Paint Translucent, you can create beautiful faux sea glass jars.  This is my first time using this paint but it is supposed to be top-rack dishwasher safe!  With that in mind, imagine the uses for this paint!  (We are an Amazon affiliate and may receive a small percentage of any sales through this link at no cost to you.  Thanks for supporting this website!)

After applying, let the jar set to dry for a few hours.  You can use it then but it needs to cure for 21 days before it is actually safe to put in the dishwasher.

Painting The Oui Yogurt Jar

Cover your work surface with newspaper.  Then, place some paint on a palette tray or directly on the jar and using a flat paintbrush, brush in one direction from the top to the bottom until the entire outside is covered.  Notice I did not paint the rim and only painted the vertical brush strokes to the indentation on the bottom of the jar.

Paint A Second And Third Coat

Then, brush on some more paint in the opposite direction, horizontally.  Turn it upside down and allow it to dry for 15 more minutes.

I decided to paint a third coat of paint and, starting at the top, angled the paintbrush to the bottom all the way around the jar.  After the third coat, I was pretty happy with the results.

On a post that Martha has, Frosted Tumblers, using this paint, the instructions are to pour a thin layer over the surface, allow excess paint to drip off the jar, and let that sit for 3 hours.  You would definitely have to thin this paint because it is a bit thick.  Maybe I’ll try it another day.

Next, using twine, wrap a piece around the base of the lip and tie into a bow.  Trim the ends.

Then, glue a seashell in the middle of the bow.Oui Yogurt Jar Ideas How To Easily Repurpose Them

Add a little tea candle inside and this is adorable!  I love it!  Don’t you?

Kim at Sand & Sisal made some DIY Sea Glass Vases using the Martha Stewart Sea Glass Paint, too.  You can check hers out through this link.  One of her little vases was the inspiration for this votive.

  1. Craft products have come a long way to use in creating and re-purposing things in crafting!! These turned out so cute!! Thank you for sharing on #omhgff this week. Please stop by again next week!
    HAve a great weekend!

  2. Peel off the labels with your fingers PRIOR to putting them in the dishwasher and you won’t have to use any Goo be Gone. I never have label adhesive residue issues.

    1. Corinne, when the Oui jars first came out, they used a different kind of glue. Fortunately, they changed that and it is not necessary to use the Goo Gone any longer. The labels come off lickety-split.
