Yogurt Glass Jar Ideas You’ll Love For Valentine’s Day

Valentine Yogurt Glass Jar Ideas

There are so many yogurt glass jar ideas possible.  Here are a few, which are so cute, how can you resist?  They are very easy to make and it will be fun to share these inexpensive little tokens.

Before you begin making these little yogurt glass jar ideas, you need to clean and prepare the Oui yogurt jars for crafting.  Those labels and the foil lid leave a residue.  Click here for how to easily clean the jars.

Oui Yogurt Glass Jar Ideas With Pink Ribbons, Victorian Charms, and Washi Tape Tea Light

Washi Tape Tea Light

This is such a simple little decoration using Washi Tape!  You would have to agree that minus the Washi tape, this would not be nearly so cute!  You can find Washi tape in a multitude of patterns right now.  So, whatever color you choose for your ribbons, there is a coordinating Washi tape for it.

Applying the Washi tape could not be more simple.  Just make sure to cut the end neatly and straight.  Apply the end of the tape to the foil of the tea light and wrap it around the entire base.  Cut the end neatly and gently press the tape down with your finger.   Voilà!

The Brass Charm

Victorian brass charms seem so perfect for a Valentine’s Day project but you can choose silver or gold, too.  You will probably need to add a jump ring to the brass charm.  You should match the color of the jump ring to the charm you choose

To add the jump ring, you need two jewelry pliers.  Although this is pretty easy to do, be sure you twist the ends of the jump ring to each side and do not pry outward!  I was taught to twist one end just past the other, back and forth a couple of times until the ends rub together and center them.

Once the jump ring is attached to the charm, thread the ribbon through it.  Wrap the ribbon around the top of the jar underneath the lip, and position the charm as near the middle as possible.  Loop one end over the other and tie a bow, catching in the jump ring with the charm.  Cut the ends at an angle with scissors.  How sweet is this?

Victorian Mod Podge Valentine Oui Jar

Choosing And Preparing The Graphic

Yogurt Glass Jar Ideas You'll Love For Valentine's Day

To make this little Valentine Oui jar, choose a graphic.  I love vintage Victorian Valentines, as you can see.  You can choose whatever style you like though!    After you choose a couple, download them, scan an image, or right-click an image on your laptop, choose “save as” and save to a file, print them on plain old copy paper with your printer.  You may need to resize them to fit the small jars.   You can do that with Photoshop, This is what my printed page looks like.  I used the 8 x 10″ blank canvas.  Divide the page into 4 rows and 4 columns.  Then each section is 2.5 x 2 inches.  Use that as a guide to decide how large to make the graphics.

Cut the image out for your Valentine and use it for the jar, making sure it will fit nicely in the small area you have.

Next, apply Mod Podge to the back of your graphic and adhere it to the side of the jar.  I used the ‘gloss’ on this project.

Let that dry for a couple of minutes and then, apply Mod Podge to the front and just slightly over the edges of the graphic.  Although it looks a bit milky here, it will dry clear.

Allow the Mod  Podge to dry and then, apply another coat.

Embellishment

Add a thin coordinating or contrasting ribbon and you have a lovely Valentine’s gift jar or votive candle holder.  This one is filled with chocolate hearts.

Love Poem Yogurt Glass Jar Ideas

Yogurt Glass Jar Ideas You'll Love For Valentine's Day!

You’ve seen the memory book and craft papers with words written across an entire page.  You can use one of those pages to create this little Valentine jar, but instead, I used Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poem.

The upper part of the Oui jar is about 8 inches in diameter and the lower portion is closer to 8.5 inches.  It would not do to type the words across the paper.  The words need to be typed lengthwise and printed using the landscape feature.  Some of the words need to be cut off in the end but there won’t be a gap in the back.

Notice the tea votive inside is covered with white and gold Washi tape.  It’s a little more subtle but still decorative and prettier than the foil.

Once again, use the 8 x 10-inch canvas to divide the page into a grid of 4 rows and four columns.  Decrease the words in size until they fit in one of the rows.  Then, print onto regular copy paper.  Vellum would be a nice option for this, too, if only I had some right now!

Yogurt Glass Jar Ideas – Cutting And Preparing The Label

Cut the paper above and straight across the top of the words and just below the bottom of the words.  My label is 1 – 3/4″ wide.  You can use a paper cutter for this or a metal ruler and an X-Acto knife, my preferred tools.

Then, wrap the label around the Oui jar.  Because the top is gradually smaller than the lower portion, the label will dip down in the back.  Fold and crease on both ends where the two sides come together.  Don’t cut yet.  (I did this with the first one and then after I glued it, the ends didn’t meet!)

Mark a line in the very middle of the type where the heart will be punched.  By making a line where the heart will be cut, you can easily line up the punch with the middle of the heart.  When I punched the heart, I added another sheet of paper behind it to give it a little more support.

The punch I used is a Fiskars extra-large heart punch.  You can find one at your local craft store or order here through Amazon.

This punch is really easy to use.  Although it is pretty big, the way the handles are made makes it easy to squeeze the heart shape.

Lay the jar on a piece of *foil and apply Mod Podge to the backside of the label all around the heart.  Center and position the label on the jar.  Then, when you have it where you want, start brushing a little Mod Podge on the backside of one side of the paper, laying it on the glass, burnishing, and continuing until you reach within 1/2″ of the back seam.  Repeat on the other side.  *(I didn’t have to worry about transferring any ink from newsprint onto the label if I used foil.)

Once most of the label is glued to the jar,  on one side, cut straight along the fold mark you made earlier.   If you need to, make any adjustments here.  Then, cut the other side so that they butt up or just slightly overlap nicely.

Apply Mod Podge to the back and then, burnish with your finger or the side of your paintbrush.

Apply a top coat of Mod Podge to the entire label, allow it to dry, and apply a second coat, just slightly overlapping the edges.

Next, add a ribbon.  This red velvet ribbon seems perfect for this.  It contrasts so nicely and adds a feel of luxury.  Just tying the ribbon in an overhand knot seemed perfect for this particular jar.  These rhinestone brads looked like a perfect touch.  I just cut off the brads on the back and with Tacky Glue, glued one onto the knotted ribbon.  A pretty button would work, too.

  1. These turned out so pretty. I hate placing these containers in the recycle since they could be used. Happy Crafting, Kippi #kippiathome

    1. Thank you, Kippi! They are adorable jars to start with but there are so many ways to craft with them for so many occasions! Have a great weekend!

  2. Cute ideas and I have to admit, I’ve never seen those glass jars. Are they in the dairy section? I pinned this! Thanks so much for linking up with me at my #AThemedLinkup 10 for All Things Love and Valentine’s Day, open until February 10.

    1. Yes, Dee, these are along with the other yogurt cups in the refrigerated section. When I first saw these, I couldn’t resist and I seriously have a collection now! You can even order lids to fit them. I have a link in one of my posts. (I have several on Oui Yogurt jars.) They are so cute. If your local grocery doesn’t have them, you can request that they order them. They even have a smaller version now.

      1. I just checked and you are so right, my grocery store has them! How about the yogurt, is it tasty, bland, sweet?

        1. The yogurt reminds me of Greek yogurt, not overly sweet. I really like it. Hope you do, too! Can’t wait to see what you do with the adorable jars!

  3. Congrats Debra! Your post is FEATURED at #AThemedLinkup 11 for Handcrafted Jewelry from my previous linkup for All Things Love and Valentine’s Day! Party open February 15 to 25.
