How To Create A Blue and White Pinecone Flower Wreath

This is such a simple but beautiful blue and white pinecone wreath!  The first thing you will need to do is make some pinecone flowers.  You can click on the link below to find the easy-to-follow directions for these.  If you have pinecones, you can easily make these.

Blue And White Pinecone Flowers

In the process of painting the pinecone flowers, it seemed the flowers looked so much more interesting if they are not all painted the same way.  My first intention to paint all of the centers white was abandoned. Once I set one of the flowers that were half-painted next to a fully painted one, it just seemed so much more interesting.

Note that some of the flowers just have a thin wash on the petals, some have a more opaque wash, and some have a much deeper blue around the centers.  Variety makes the flowers more interesting!

Directions For The Pinecone Flowers Wreath

After you have painted your pinecone flowers, paint your grapevine wreath.  On my way home the other day, I stopped at the local hardware store and picked up this Rustoleum flat spray paint.  Going to the craft store might have been a better idea.  This paint works nicely but does have a smell.  Fortunately, the smell seems to have dissipated over a couple of days.

As with any spray paint, several light coats are better than one heavy coat.  Spray a light coat over one side, walk away, then, come back and spray another.  The paint dries relatively quickly.

Then, when one side is coated, turn the wreath over and spray the other side with several light coats of paint.

Glue The Flowers To The Pinecone Flowers Wreath

Lay the wreath on a flat surface.  Then, begin placing the pinecone flowers on the wreath.  The flowers will nestle into the grapevine pretty nicely.

You may have seen some wreaths where the pinecone flowers completely cover the wreath.  Allowing the white grapevine to show and placing the pinecone flowers around the wreath gives a delicate look to the wreath.  I love these delicate flowers!

One thing I have learned is that taking pictures of your projects is a good idea.  For some reason, you can look at your wreath, mantel display, or decorative project and feel confident it looks good.  Then, you hang it up, take a picture, and something sticks out like a sore thumb.  In the picture above, those three flowers on the right bottom in a straight line clearly need some manipulation.

When you have the flowers where you want them, next, begin gluing them to the wreath.  As I glued these to the grapevine, I knocked a couple off onto the cabinet.  I just left them there, hung up the wreath, and reassessed where to put them.

Painting the pinecone flowers is so quick and easy!  Once the wreath is hung above the fireplace mantel, I can easily add a couple of flowers if it seems they are needed.  I like the wreath as it is and don’t think a bow is necessary!  Sometimes, less is more…  Wait until you see the blue and white mantel display!

Imagine this wreath in a pretty pink or red version!  You need to try making one of these!
