It’s time for fall decorating but before I pull out the orange pumpkins and gourds, decorating the mantel with blue and white seems fresh and fun. Once again, I’m tenaciously trying to cling to summer.

The base for this fall mantel display is an autumn arch found at Michael’s a few weeks ago. It gives height and pattern, yet the aged white paint is a pleasing neutral that will go with anything. I love it.

Blue and White Chinoiserie

When I bought this decorative arch, I also picked up two blue and white chinoiserie jars with silver caps to add to an expanding collection. This blue and white collection is unintentional.

Add two blue and white jars to the mantel.

“Home” Sign

Don’t you love this, “It’s so good to be home” sign? Before the home sign is in place, the blue and white birds seem like a good idea. Then, it seems these off-white birds with brown touches echo the aging on the arch and the lettering on the sign. Yes, that is better, isn’t it?

A blue and white vase filled with red silk chrysanthemums adds interest and just a little snip of red silk hydrangea is the finishing touch.

My first thought was to add bright yellow sunflowers, but the deep red of these mums against the blue and white is so pretty and just as autumnal!
