How To Create A Simple Valentine's Day Mantel Display

There are different ways to create a simple Valentine’s Day mantel display.  Typically, you start with large background pieces or with a statement piece!  Being artistic, we don’t always conform to all of the rules, do we?

This mantel display began a little backward and that’s okay.  The end result is what counts, right?

Inspiration For This Valentine’s Day Mantel Display

Heart garland and greenery.

As I packed the Christmas things away earlier, I came across a length of greenery and the heart banners I made last year.  At that moment, the idea of laying the greenery across the mantel came to my mind.  It’s a delicate piece of greenery and it seems that the little hearts on the banners complement the piece.

Use a couple of small clear command hooks to drape the heart banners easily.

Add An Arch And Picture to the Valentine’s Day Mantel Display

You’ll probably recognize the white arch from some earlier mantel displays.  I love the arch as a background.  It adds a nice pattern, height, and weight to the display.

We have had this little rose picture for many years.  When it caught my eye, it seemed the perfect addition to the mantel display.  Gold candles echo the gold frame and carry the color throughout the display.

To begin with, I set the arch and the picture off-center.  Then, after adding the candleholder, candles, pink roses, and peonies, I reposition them slightly.  They look better in the middle, don’t they?

It needs a candleholder for height.

As I step back and look at the mantel, it seems the candle on the right needs some more height.  We don’t have a shorter mercury glass candleholder.

At this point, it is necessary to “shop the house.”  The off-white candleholders on the entry table seem perfect.  Remove the mercury candle holder, replace it with the taller candle holder and place the shorter one to the right of the picture.
