How to Use Stickers and Paint to Decorate Oui Yogurt Jars

How to Use Stickers and Paint to Decorate Oui Yogurt Jars

When I picked up some stickers at the dollar store, I had no plan to decorate Oui Yogurt jars.  However, while browsing Pinterest, I came across a cute decorative jar that caught my eye. It inspired me to use the same stickers, painted with chalk paint, to create a charming jar of my own.  Pamela’s post on CraftsySoul inspired this yogurt jar project.

Directions

On the back of these stickers is a sticky square piece of foam.  Apply Tacky Glue all around the foam.  Then, position the sticker on the side of the jar.  Use a piece of painter’s tape to curve the sticker around the jar and hold in place until the glue dries.

Pamela used a piece of rafia to wrap around the jar and to hold the sticker in place until the glue dried.  Instead, I used a piece of painter’s tape.  You can see that the tape removed the top layer of color on the sticker, but it didn’t affect the raised design shape.  After applying the paint, it is not visible.

Paint the Outside of the Oui Jar

First, paint the outside of the jar with the chalk paint.  I’ve used Folk Art Chalk Paint in Oatmeal as a base.  Paint two or three coats of paint over the sticker, the jar, and just the top rim of the jar.  Then, allow the paint to dry between coats.

You’ll want to use a soft-bristle brush and paint gently.  If you are too aggressive, you’ll scrape off the paint.  Don’t freak out if you do.  Allow the paint to dry, and then paint over it.

Apply Antique Wax

With a soft brush, apply 34171 FolkArt Antique Wax over the chalk paint.  Quickly wipe off the excess with a soft cloth, following the directions on the bottle.  This wax dries in a couple of hours.

Notice in the picture above that I’ve placed the jar upside down on a small bottle to dry.

Wrap a piece of jute twine below the rim and tie a little bow.  How cute is this?  I’ve added a silk flower.
