Here’s another idea for decorative burlap trim yogurt jars. If you love shabby chic or farmhouse decorations, you will love these little decorative jars. Wouldn’t these make perfect centerpieces for a wedding, a baby shower, or for your farmhouse decor?
Burlap Trim
You can find the burlap trim for these at your local craft store or Amazon. The trims used in this post are from Hobby Lobby. I’ve included links for some comparable trims online. The jar is only 2-1/2 inches tall from under the rim to the bottom. Keep this in mind when purchasing the trim.

- Clean and Empty Oui Yogurt Jars
- Variety of Burlap Trim
- Variety of Lace Trims
- Scissors
- Mod Podge
- Tacky Glue
- 3/4 – inch Strips of an old sheet or muslin fabric
- Needle and Thread
- Jute twine
*** You can use a glue gun in place of the Tacky Glue if you like. I like how the Tacky Glue holds and gives you a little more time to tweak things.
Oui Yogurt Jars
When I first discovered these little Oui yogurt jars, the glue used for the labels and lids was a bit difficult to remove. My first post included how to remove the leftover glue residue. The company has changed what they use, and it is so much easier to remove the labels and lids with little residue left over. A bit of Goo Gone and the glue can be easily removed.
Unlike Mason jars, Oui yogurt jars are a little smaller at the top of the jar in comparison to the bottom. You have to take that into account when you wrap the burlap trim around the jar. Where the two ends come together, the ends will dip slightly.

This first option uses burlap trim with lace attached. This is the easiest option. First, wrap a piece of the trim around the jar. Then, cut the trim leaving an inch of excess on both ends, a total of 2-inches excess.
Brush a swatch of Mod Podge over an inch swatch on the side of the glass jar. Lay the middle of the cut length of trim over the Mod Podge. At this point, I also added a few dabs of Tacky Glue to the edges of the trim. It will dry quicker and hold the trim in place faster than the Mod Podge.
Wrap the trim around the jar, matching the ends. Hold the trim in place until the glue holds. Then, brush a little more of the Mod Podge on one side of the jar, next to the glue you just applied. Repeat on the other side. Repeat until you have about an inch of the trim left on both sides.
Then, fold the excess back on both ends and press the folds with your finger. Using sharp scissors, cut the ends along the crease.
Brush Mod Podge onto the jar under the trim, and then, apply Tacky Glue along the cut ends. Line up and press the cut ends together. This is where you want to place the decorative trim, covering the cut ends.
I planned to add a shabby chic fabric rose on top of this trim, but I like it so much in its simplicity! I left it to stand on its own. Sometimes less is more. Know when to stop!

This second type of burlap trim is a lot looser and more forgiving. I like the loose ends on each side. It makes it a lot more interesting. You can find some similar and interesting burlap trims here on Amazon. ◄
Apply Tacky Glue to the mid-section of the trim. Place the trim on the jar. You can see that I chose to leave a little more space at the top. The cut twine fringe almost touches the bottom of the jar. Hold the glued section to the jar and add some more glue to the trim. Repeat until the loose end almost meets the glued end. Lay the loose end of the trim on top of the glued section and cut the loose end.
Then, apply glue to the back of the loose end, lay on the jar, and match up the ends. This trim is a lot more flexible, and the glued section is smaller. The jar being smaller at the top and a little larger at the bottom won’t be an issue.
Add Decorations
Next, add some decorative items. For this little jar, I use a needle and thread to make a running stitch along the top edge of a 10 -inch piece of lace. Then, pull the thread to create a little rosette. Tie a knot with the thread to hold it. I also ran a little bit of glue on one end of the lace and slightly overlapped the other end, but that’s not necessary. Center and glue the lace rosette over the burlap where the trim ends meet.
Fabric Roses
Then, make a fabric rose. You can find instructions for making three different versions of fabric roses by clicking on the link below.
For these roses, I used an old sheet. Just clip about 1/2-inch along the edge of the sheet and then, tear across the sheet. Tear 3/4-inch strips for these roses.

This third yogurt jar version begins with a 2-inch wired burlap ribbon. As I said before, the jar is smaller at the top than the bottom. If you try to wrap the 2-inch ribbon around the jar, it will dip where the ends meet.
So, follow these steps, if you want the burlap ribbon to fit up against the jar. First, wrap the ribbon around the jar, and cut leaving an inch extra on each end.
Then, remove the wires from the ribbon. With scissors, cut thin triangles about 1/2-inch deep along the top edge of the burlap piece every inch or so.
Using Tacky Glue, begin gluing the burlap to the jar starting in the center of the ribbon. Push the burlap triangles together to close the gaps. Hold the triangle closed until the glue dries. It will only take a couple of minutes. Repeat until you have the remaining triangles closed.
Then, snip excess burlap off the ends so that the two ends will butt together. Use the Tacky Glue to glue the remaining burlap to the jar.
Twine And Lace
Under the rim, wrap twine around the jar twice. Then, make a bow and trim the ends.
Next, apply glue to the backside of one end of a piece of lace. I cut this lace so the flower would be centered and the dip in the lace would match up. Keep dotting glue on the lace and applying until almost to the end. Then, cut around the flower and the designs so that it looks like it fits seamlessly and glue.
Lastly, glue a fabric rose over the center knot it the bow.
So, here are three options for creating cute shabby chic yogurt jars. Just imagine how many different looks you can create just by changing the burlap ribbon and the lace. These would be so perfect for a country or shabby chic wedding, wouldn’t they?
