Is there any crafter who doesn’t love little Oui yogurt jars? As I was shopping the fall decor at Hobby Lobby, some brown and green glass jars with twine wrapped around the top edges of the bottle caught my attention. My mind went straight to the collection of yogurt jars I have at home. Wouldn’t this be a brilliant way to reuse them for fall decor?
Wood Fall Leaves Fall Decor
We have plenty of twine and glue in my craft stash. I found a little box of ‘Wood Fall Leaves’ in the aisles with fall items. They seem to be a perfect size for this project. These are on sale right now for $2.99. They measure about 1-1/2-inch by 1-1/16-inch. (We are not affiliated with Hobby Lobby.) Another option is a leaf charm in the jewelry department or some leaves in the paper crafting section.
Short Cuts Spray Paint
Next, I needed paint colors for fall. Have you seen these Krylon Short Cuts Spray Paints? I don’t know who thought up the idea for these, but it is brilliant! Along with several other colors, Michael’s has the paints in Espresso and Bright Orange. Apparently, other stores around have them, too.

Directions For Oui Yogurt Jars for Fall Decor
Paint The Jars
First, you need to paint the yogurt jars. It’s a good idea to use cardboard to protect your grass from overspray. The cardboard is also sturdy enough to support the glass jars. Holy Moly! Is that orange bright or what?
Place the jar top down. This will keep the top rim from being painted but it will look like it is. The inside will be free of any paint. Spray light coats of the paint as you turn the cardboard around. Then, let the paint dry for a couple of minutes and repeat until the jar is completely covered.
Gluing The Twine
Then, after the paint is dry, squeeze a thin line of glue just under the rim of the jar. Lay the end and a little more than an inch of the twine in the glue. Be sure to press the twine up against the rim. Then, hold the end of the twine in place until the glue takes hold. Tacky glue sets up pretty quickly.
Then, apply more glue right under the rim. After gluing the twine a few times, I found that it keeps the painted jar free from excess glue if you pull the twine up into the glue. Laying the twine right on top, some glue squished out. By pulling the string into the glue, it pushes the glue closer to the rim and, or, into the previous strand of twine. Gently push the twine upward and close to the previous strand.
Glue 8 rows of twine. Then, as you can see in the last picture above, cut the twine beneath where you started. The wood leaf decoration will cover the ends.
Glue The Leaf Decoration
Choose one of the wood leaves. The ones I chose are the larger of the leaves in this collection. Next, apply a generous amount of glue to the back of the leaf and position it on top of the twine covering both ends of the twine.
My gosh! Could this be any easier? Although this is so simple, these are so stinking cute! I think I’ll get some olive-green paint for a three-color set… Wouldn’t these be great for a fall wedding?
