How To Create a Red, White, and Blue Patriotic Mantel Display?

Who doesn’t love the beautiful blue and white chinoiserie vases, bowls, ginger jars, and figurines? This patriotic display is inspired by a picture of a blue and white vase with red flowers and an American flag. Red, white, and blue is such a striking combination, isn’t it? With the 4th of July just around the corner, it seems the perfect display!

Choosing some of the pieces from my blue and white collection, I began placing them on the fireplace mantel.

Next, a few deep red flowers add some interest.

Display Vintage American Flags

You can see that we’ve visually created two triangles, which is a good thing! We need something more substantial in the bowl… Three vintage looking American flags are the perfect addition. First, we use some dry floral foam to create a good base for the wooden dowels holding the flags.

Dry floral foam holds the flags in place.

Cover the floral foam with crinkle paper

Then, add some crinkled paper strips to cover the floral foam.

Initially, the plan was to use white candles on the clear blue glass candle holders. The gold metallic candles seem a better option. Tuck a couple of the red flowers around the bowl.

Add Some More Patriotic Touches

The display looks really pretty but a few smaller pieces give it an added pizazz! The red glitter candle is one I picked up at Hobby Lobby last year. My plan was to buy another one to add to the display. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any this year.

So, the little Patriotic Oui jar votive I decorated a couple of years ago seems a pretty good balance for the red glitter star. The vintage wooden blocks are so easy to make, and they look perfectly at home in this display, too.

Lastly, I picked up the patriotic bunting at Michael’s. It caught my eye a week ago and seems the perfect finishing touch to this red, white, and blue mantel display.

The bunting would really be easy to make but I really love the papers they used for this one.
